I think what he was asking is why do people need access to 3dsx homebrew when they have CFW.

Maybe for homebrew that only exists as .3dsx and not as .cia? I don't really see any point personally because the homebrew I use on a regular basis is all .cia homebrew. I think some people are still paranoid and think .cia homebrew gets you banned.

I thought he was literally asking if he needed the HomeBrew CIA installed to use FreeShop because it uses a "HomeBrew" boot screen not the 3DS one like most custom HomeBrews.

yeah. why homebrew when you have cfw? what's so good in it that there's often a thread about homebrew here.?I only used homebrew when inserting CFW. But now I remembered, the only one time I opened it before updating to 11.3, it had lots of options like exporting saves etc...

I dunno, there are a handful of .3DSX HomeBrew that isn't available as a CIA or doesn't work as a CIA. The old HANS is a good example, ormaybe something like PokeSlow, Custom Games etc. Honestly, there isn't a HomeBrew I know of that can do something an existing CIA cannot, so IMO it's obsolete other than to install CFW.

Currently there seems to be this new trend about using Rosalina to hide Homebrew behind legit system apps, so people have been favoring .3DSX builds of common apps hoping to avoid the all seeing eye of Nintendo. I'm not sure how useful that is though.

Aren't all entrypoints patched in 11.5? If you want Homebrew on 11.5, you have limited options which you can find on this link for the Old 3DS. Basically it's installing boot9strap and Luma CFW either via the DSiWare thing or hardmod. Previous exploits (browserhax, tubehax, soundhax, *hax) were patched afaik.
Who can I send my N3DS 11.5 to get it hardmoded
