That could have been a result of switching and not clearing something when using an FX gam opposed to a normal one.
But who knows.

Hard to say for sure, has overclocking properly worked in the Wii U port in the past? I don't recall anyone mentioning otherwise either. Running it thrice the clock speed is sure to be somewhat unstable, no?

Unfortunately, I don't have Windows 10 for various reasons, and I don't feel comfortable using it yet. The second issue, is space, I have my Wii U in my bedroom/PC room, so there'd be no room, and the downstairs TV is already cluttered with a Wii, PS3, PS4, etc, lots of wires/cables, it's a mess. The Elgato is compact, but given that I only have a monitor and not a TV next to this, that too would be impossible to capture video on unless I used a laptop next to the monitor, IDK. I've wanted to capture Wii U for years, who knows for sure.

Wish the Wii U had native capture abilities.
Yeah Im not a great fan of win10 either but it came with the lappy so.. it'll do.

As for native capture ability does retroarch pc support recording gameplay? If so maybe it will find its way over to the WiiU eventually? Who knows.

Not that I know of, I use Shadowplay and or OBS to do it and it works just fine, can record upwards of 40 mbps 1080p 60 fps, but that can be quite a resource hog. I'd rather just use a capture device, that way it offsets any resource hogging on the Wii U. I doubt it would work well on the Wii U given how many resources it takes to capture video and writing it to SD/USB; USB speeds on Wii U aren't that good.

Howdy guys, I did a little searching on this thread but didn't find much in the way of a direct answer to this question- that being- how exactly should I go about getting Sega CD/Mega CD games to run? I have the correct bios images in the retroarch/cores/system/ directory

I'm using redump verified Sega CD games- which are in bin+cue format of course- however, for whatever reason when loading the cue sheet RetroArch immediately crashes- and if I pick just Track 01, then the game plays but with no music- these same games work perfectly fine in Wii Mode under Genesis Plus GX, so I figure something RetroArch is doing here must be wrong.

Open your .cue and check if it has the same name as .bin in the header.
Also check the path to your bios_cd, they go in sd:/retroarch/cores/system set the same path in Settings > Directory

bios are all working and found under core information, the problem is I get an immediate crash when I load the cue- if I load the first track's bin file it boots into the SCD Bios and loads the game, but without music, presumably because it can't find the bin files for the other tracks.

As I said, I use the clean redump.org verified Sega CD images, and they work fine with the same bios in Genesis Plus GX in vWii- I haven't tried on PC RetroArch, so I suppose I'll try that next.

Try changing the bin files to mp3s? Also, having it in ISO format will load the music.

Well I know that wouldn't work, Genesis Plus GX itself only supports Bin+Cue or Iso+Cue format Sega CD games, meaning the core would be subject to the same restriction :V

My memory is a bit fuzzy, so you might be right. Did the mp3 renaming work?

Try downloafing an older version of the core 1.5.x see if that works..

Hmm, indeed that works, I was using the latest nightly build before, and before that the latest stable build.
So what now? Report issue to the RetroArch tracker?

So its working for you? Ekeeke has changed a few things recently apparently. Thats probably why. :)

I'd wait until ekeeke releases his next update. Hes fixing a bug (something to do with vorbis) that could be related to your bug?

Mame 0.135 is from 2009? I think mame 2000 should work on wiiu there is a build on this thread somewhere but its really far behind on features (no XMB UI or core loading)

Yes 0.135U4 is from December 2009 ,so we can call it mame2009.

I tried to build a full version but the rpx was 54.5MB and i got an memory error on the wii U.
I rebuilt with the -Os option and the rpx now is 46.5MB. At least it goes.

But I have two major problems to solve.

- The first is when loading a roms that is not valid (bad romset for example) mame crash the wii U.

- The second is more curious.
I run a rom, then change the game with the mame interface (I try in a same session to load a dozen games) it works well.
But when I choose "close content" and then I do a "load content" to select another game, the core load then the wii U crash.
And in my logs I can see curious things, for example a variable (static int foo=1) which is not reset to zero but keeping the value of the old session, which causing bugs in the program.
As if "close content" did not unload the program, at least do not empty the memory of the allocated variables. very odd.

I dunno about the rom error thing that's a strange one? (we just need to be 100% sure we have the right set before hand)..

I think that memory emptying error maybe related to the DSI errors we get sometimes changing cores? Perhaps it's the rpx loader part of the code? It adds more strength to that being the cause anyway :)

...I never used the Close content option anyway ;)

That's the exact build I'm using and Sonic CD works here too. (BIN/CUE) :)
On PC I'm using the latest nightly, and Sega CD with bin+cue works fine there so the issue itself still must be port specific.

So, 1.5.0 works on my Wii U no problem, game loads just fine, all set.

Just in case this is related: The way I load homebrew is pretty standard I think as well, I just boot my Wii U up, CBHC takes over and boots me into the Wii U menu, and I load "Homebrew Launcher" from the icon on my Wii U menu- I've of course been using retroarch_rpx downloads since rpx is supposedly better (at least from what I've heard)

Anyway, I just tried 1.6.4 per both of your recommendation with a default configuration, and I'm getting a "DSI: Instr at 0D11C368 bad read from unmapped memory" followed by a bunch of addresses- it looks like it may be related to this issue on github for me, as every time I get a crash it's always a similar error.

One of the things I tried was setting the menu driver back to rgui, just in case the assets being loaded was causing the crash, but instead of crashing, I just get "failed to load content" error- unless I need to switch to the Genesis Plus GX core from another core, in which case I get that "DSI: Instr..." error again.

The bug in question is definitely WiiU Gens Plus specific.
RPX is the standard format nowadays, Elf hasn't been used for Retroarch for ages :P
If you haven't already I'd install the Retroarch Channel. It cuts down on the DSI Errors. :) The DSI Errors are really annoying and have plagued the WiiU port for the longest time :( But for me it it basically stopped them. I do still get Memory Error 160-2203 at times though :(

You can get the Retroarch Channel from @cucholix Sig :)

Thanks for pointing me in that direction, now with the launcher, I get that vorbis error on the latest nightly when launching Sonic CD, and and some sort of ISI error with 1.6.4 when launching Sonic CD.

I'm going to keep trying older stables until I find the last one that works. :V
