As the title asks, is there a way to toggle the LayeredFS that Luma handles on and off? Possibly with the Rosalina menu? I ask because I got the Super Mario Maker luma layeredFS that essentially makes it Super Luigi Maker. But I'd like to be able to toggle before entering the game whether I'll be activating the LayeredFS or not. Thats the nice thing about BootNTR's version of handling layeredFS, you can't activate it unless you enter BootNTR, and BootNTR doesn't automatically load up every time you start your 3DS. However, attempts to use BootNTR's layeredFS for Super Luigi Maker were unsuccessful, this is why we must use Luma's solution instead. I'm just hoping there is an on/off switch that I'm missing.

I'm fairly certain that the option "Enable Game Patching" in Luma's settings turns Luma's LayeredFS on or off.

You can also go into a file manager like FBI and change the name of your ROM hack folder so it won't be detected by romfs, this method only stops certain ROM hack and not all of them like turning of game patches

Yes this is true, I guess I should have specified that I mean for on the fly toggling. It'd be nice if I could change the state of layeredFS of being activated or not from the Rosalina menu. But I'm guessing thats not possible.

You know you can load the Luma config menu without turning off the console by going to a stock system app right? Like if you go to system settings and hold "select" after you exit, you can toggle it off that way.

I don't think we use System Settings exit reboot thing anymore because Rosalina has Reboot option which is quicker.

that's because exiting system settings ALWAYS reboots the system (soft-reset). There's almost no difference from turning it off then on while holding select. This isn't what the OP was asking.

EDIT: It's not possible at the moment, but I actually think it's easy and a good idea. I'll add this to the Rosalina feature request issue on github.

What? That's something that already exists close enough to what he wants. He said he wanted a way to toggle game patching on the fly, that's the best way to do it with Luma without turning off the console. I wouldn't consider it the same at all since it leaves the system on the entire time, you're not waiting for a complete reboot.

Okay? That doesn't mean it doesn't work Lol. Either way to toggle game patching with Lumas layeredFS it requires a soft reboot, the Rosalina menu causes a hard reboot anyway, so you might as well press power anyway.

Sorry for giving the dude an idea. I don't see you guys trying to think of something........

Your solution works well enough, but I do think that if we could toggle it from the Rosalina menu, that'd be even better. But thank you for what you pointed out, that is an OK solution that works, albeit not the most practical or quickest to adjust as I'm sure it could be.

Even NTR doesn't have on the fly toggling, sure you can turn it on when you want but turning it back off again requires a reboot.
Optimally there would be some sort of menu to toggle patches for individual games, just like the PSP had for plugins.
You could suggest it on the GitHub issue tracker if you like, if they consider it a good idea then they may add it in a future version.

No NTR doesn't, but NTR doesn't boot automatically when I turn on my 3DS. This means I can play many games, and at some point I decide I want to play Super Mario Maker, though I'm not sure as to if I want to play as Mario or Luigi. I finally decide, if I decide Mario, I just start the game, if I decide Luigi, I quickly boot NTR and then boot the game. Conversely with Luma's solution, I have to know before I turn my 3DS on as to whether I want to play as Luigi or Mario, and that may not even be the very first game I want to play when I turn on my system. It's just one example, but its an example in which I prefer the BootNTR method of loading LayeredFS over Luma's solution. However, for whatever reason, Super Luigi Maker didn't work as a BootNTR LayeredFS and as such only the Luma solution exists at this time. Which is fine, I just wish it had a more intuitive way to toggle the LayeredFS, specifically if we could do it in the Rosalina Menu, that'd be awesome.

What? No it doesn't. You can enter and exit Rosalina all day long, with an app still running. There may be settings that require it when you change them, but it's a function of how those settings work; how they are loaded. That has nothing to do with Rosalina itself.

And @The Real Jdbye <puts on flame guard> Gateway cheats have real-time toggling. And BTW, they are FINALLY  prepping for a new release this Sunday :toot:.

If you are on an o3DS you have to use NTR Mode3 for that game, as it's an extended memory mode game.
Edit: Also note that NTR Mode3 works a bit differently. You have to launch it, then launch the game immediately after without closing BootNTR beforehand.

And that's why it has issues with BootNTR's layeredFS? Makes sense if thats the case I suppose. Though you'd think it wouldn't be an issue for those of us with a N3DS.
It's not an issue on n3DS, but on o3DS the system is soft rebooted any time you launch an extended memory mode game and that wipes NTR from memory. Mode3 is made as an extended memory mode app and the console doesn't have to reboot when switching between 2 extended memory mode apps.

I see, well as far as I can tell, no one ever released the BootNTR version of the Super Luigi Maker LayeredFS, and the reasoning was that it didn't work. I'm guessing the person that tried to make it was trying on an O3DS and this is why they thought it wasn't possible. Still, its very annoying as they didn't release the BootNTR version assuming it didn't work at all. I'd do it myself, but I have no idea how to put such a thing together.

It's not that hard, you need to dump the code.bin of the game, then you run it through a PC tool to get the .plg.

I meant when you use the "reboot" option, not just loading the menu Lol

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.

I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs

I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
