Hi guys,

I recently try to play zelda 2 and mario bros with fceux on wii U and I notice a lag between button press and jump on screen.

I read couple of articles about Framemeister, that supposed to eliminate lag and get a better graphics but they always talking about RGB. I wonder if I just plug my wii U with hdmi input and hdmi output with Framemeister, will that setup eliminate the lag too or if I have to use RGB input ?

I try to get a clear answer before spending 500$ bucks on that :)

Thanks for your help.

OSSC is 0 lag as it's a linedoubler/trippler/quadrupler/etc, however certain hdtvs can't handle the quadrupling (my sony uhdtv couldn't handle it). framemeister adds ~24ms lag as it's a upscaler which does stuff with them pixels. hdtv in general also have a certain amount of lag where the lowest have round 13ms, but normal is around 40ms.

OSSC and Framemeister are meant to be used with old Scart-RGB,Composite systems and not modern hdmi consoles. They are meant to take the analogue signal and convert it into a beautiful digital signal at low latency. But remember there will always be a small latency when running digital.

It will help you absolutely 0 if you are using a Wii U which is running HDMI.

If you are serious about gaming old skool games, your best choice is Phone or PC with emulator. If you have the money, buy the old video game system + game and an old scart-rgb capable fat tv.

I see, so there is no way to reduce the lag over emulator on Wii or Wii U ? I read somewhere there is also the iScan VP50 that supposed to reduce the lag to 0 ?

If you have a PAL Wii you can output RGB 480p to a fat tv and there should be 0 lag whatsoever if you use gamecube controllers.

Do you experience lag when using only the Wii U pad?

Have you enabled game mode in your tv for the hdmi channel you are using? What brand and model is your tv?

Did you try using a computer hdmi monitor with your Wii U (they usually have much less delay than normal hdtvs)?

Thanks for your help :)

I am on north america, ntsc, I try different controller, wii u gamepad wii u controller, nes controller with adapter and I also have game mode on my hdtv. The model I have this tv: http://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-55UH6550-4k-uhd-tv

I didnt try hdmi monitor, I dont have one, but I have a nes on a commodore 64 monitor and there is no lag, that is how I notice a lag when I press button to jump :)

(1) First of all, Wii U uses wireless controllers which automatically introduce delay.

(2) According to displaylag.com your tv has:
  • 55″ 55UH6550 – Input Lag: 19ms (Excellent) <- make sure you have enabled game mode and disabled all kind of processing
(3) the c64 monitor is a fat crt one which takes analogue signals and display them directly. When there is no analogue to digital conversion, there won't be any delay.

I see, maybe I could find wired controller for wii U, I dont know if that exist ..

I look in settings on tv and I couldnt found anything to disable that would help..

I wonder if I buy the iScan VP50 if it will help ?

no any device you buy will still not go bypass the hdtv delay lol.

Please tell us your results when playing and looking on the Wii U Game Pad.

Have you tried doing Virtual Console inject instead of playing on an emulator?

Edit: You don't even need to inject. Both of those games are available in the Wii U USB Helper Tool

Virtual Console, at least on the 3DS, also has some inherent input lag. Testing on my N3DS running Super Mario Brothers (NES game from ambassador program) I consistently got 4-5 frames (/60fps) out of 20 measurements, which is 66.67-83.33 ms. I think that some input lag is unavoidable when dealing with emulation of any kind, even Nintendo's official emulators, but I'll say that Nintendo's emulators as a whole seem to me much better than most others, so I'd also recommend trying a VC injection and seeing how that feels.

I need one of these for psx games on the ps2 since my tv doesn't display 240p. they're expensive though due largely in part to being discontinued. you don't really have any alternative either which sucks.
