I've already been on GBATemp's Flashcart Comparison Chart and it looks like the SuperCard DSTwo is the best option. Years ago I had a DSi with an R4i and that seemed to do pretty well. All I really want to do is play mostly older games/systems with maybe a few DS titles. I'm not even sure I care about playing 3DS games! So my questions are as follows:

1. Is there any reason not to get the SuperCard? If so, what should I get instead?

2. If I don't really care about playing 3DS games is there any reason to get a 3DS instead of, say, a DSi XL?

I just wanna get back into DS emulation. I loved my DSi! But if the SuperCard's site is any indication flashcart emulation has gotten a lot better.

The Supercard DSTWO drains battery life something horrible and the the emulators are done better through VC injection.
The 3DS is super easy to hack and allows features like VC game injections.

Well you say it's super easy to hack but I'm not particularly skilled when it comes to hacking. But if you can point me in the right direction I'll see if it's not too complex to wrap my brain around.

The 2 best choices are the DSTWO and the R4i Gold (r4ids.cn)
R4i Gold lacks the built in CPU so you can't run SNES/GBA games on it (well you can but not very well), and it doesn't have Free Cheat, but other than that it has everything else the DSTWO has such as Real Time Save.
In return it's much cheaper, and doesn't drain battery life as much.
Note that the DSTWO only drains the battery when you're running DSTWO-specific emulators, and when running 3DS software or when in sleep mode in 3DS software, because the 3DS keeps polling the cart in the background which forces the CPU to stay running. For me it's not an issue to eject the cart when I'm not using it, my pouch has space for games.
Anyway, if you install homebrew on the 3DS, there are emulators available that work better than or equivalent to the DSTWO ones, so you don't lose out on much by getting the cheaper R4i Gold.
