Hi, I want to buy a flashcart to play DS games on my new 3ds, but I have no idea which one to get. I know there are threads about this, but I'm afraid that they'll have outdated info. My 3ds is on 11.4, will any flashcart work on it?
Thanks in advance.

Thank you, this was just what I was looking for. Will it work out of the box or will I have to do some fuckery with the 3ds to make it work?

I think you just need to put the firmware and games on a micro SD card, put that in it, and you should be good to go.

Yes. The icon for the flashcart appears on the home menu and I just get a glimpse of white screens and then it goes all black. Sometimes it freeze on white. I don't have time or patience to test it further and try things right now because I recently bought a mint DS lite and I enjoy playing on it. But if someone can shed some light on this, by all means....halp.

I bought that card just a few weeks ago and could NOT get it working. I gave up.
I can probably help you get it working. :P

1. Format the microSD card to FAT32, w/ 32KB Cluster size.
2. Download the kernel and woodR4 for the R4i Gold 3DS RTS (here)
3. Extract the RAR file and place the files from it on the root of your microSD card.
4. Place some NDS roms on the SD card.
5. Safely Eject the SD from your computer and place the microSD in the R4i Gold 3DS RTS.
6. Put in DS and all should work fine.

If it doesn't work fine after each of these steps, try another microSD card, or verify the contacts on the microSD are clean.

Pretty sure I tried that but sure, since you're being helpful I'll try after I watch this last episode of the man in the high castle. Also, I own plenty of flash carts so I'm not new to them. I'll try afterwards.

Cleaning the contacts once got my R4i Gold working again which is something I never had to do with any other flashcart. It's worth a quick shot at least.

Sure thing, let me know how it goes for you.

How did you try to get it to work? Did you buy it from here http://www.nds-card.com/ProShow.asp?ProID=149 ?

For the record, I ordered two of those from that site and just got them yesterday- both work flawlessly with my 32GB Sandisk microSD cards. I do not recommend buying a microSD from nds-card as China has a bad reputation for producing counterfeit or poor quality SD cards. Always buy SD cards from reputable stores, locally if possible.

Good idea! Just make sure that if you're going to do it, you do it right- with a cotton swab and a very conservative amount of rubbing alcohol- ensuring the contacts are completely dry before you attempt to use the card again.

If you want to use R4 Wood Kernel, you need to go with R4i GOLD 3DS RTS , @Lilith Valentine recommend it.
But, if you don't want Wood Kernel Features, you can go for a $4 cheaper R4i-SDHC 3DS RTS, which reccomend by @gnmmarechal.
Both of them support real time save and cheats (Not real time cheating like DSTWO).

But, if you want to use ntrboothax, Acekard 2i is the only option now. But, this one doesn't support real time save.
Since R4 Wood Kernel is a modified version of the Acekard Kernel, you should get all R4 Wood Kernel features with Acekard 2i.

This is what R4 Wood Kernel offer:
Wood R4 is a modified version of the Acekard Kernel to run on R4, M3 Simply, and R4i Gold (r4ids.cn.) It's basically praised for introducing all of the Acekard features so it basically had almost all the same features as akAIO. The only feature it didn't have was individual loader updates. Otherwise it had basically everything else.
I always suggest it because it's extremely light on the battery, the ROM performance is perfect, the RTS is stable and simple, it's easy and highly customizable, homebrew soft-reset, and so many other features. I personally think it's the best kernel next to akAIO and it's also why I always suggest the R4i Gold over other carts.

Worked immediately. Thanks, however...I need pixel perfect mode. Is there a button combo for that? Also I managed to press the damn "3DS setup" option. What does that do, does it fuck with the 3ds internals?

Not sure, it might've been a tool to install that old mset exploit but it doesn't seem to do anything on any current firmware 3DS afaik.
To get a 1:1 pixel mode, hold "start" or "select" while booting the flashcart from the 3DS home menu.
Expect some rather large borders though.
