I think "flog" is just a codename. Like how the Wii U was called Project Cafe, 3DS being CTR, Switch being NX. and so on.

That's what it is actually. It doesn't necessarily have to mean something but I'd wager it means a certain sport rather than beating someone or something.

Right, but it still stands that the PS3 and Xbox 360 used emulation for older games, universal emulation is something Nintendo should've done a long time ago. PS1 on PS3 is using PS1 hardware I believe.

Why? It's not like not-universal emulators are bad or what.

They weren't that good for Snes and NES on the Wii U, many games were broken/incompatible. PS1 emulation on PS3 isn't half bad.
