Having to wait on a screw driver isnt the biggest deal and the pot tweaking looks pretty easy to do compared to the pot tweaking on an Xbox. I just hope that pot tweaking will actually work

I wouldn't start 'pot tweaking' until you've tried 1) another burner, 2) another brand of disc, 3) another software client.

I use "Philips Duplicator Grade" mini dvd-r's and burn with Imgburn. Never had a problem, until I did. Imgburn said "success", but the disks wouldn't run in my Cube. Switched from the old Verbatim burner in my desktop to the generic burner in my laptop, and was back in business. Ordered a new burner for the desktop the next day.

Anyway, point is, any of these things could be your weak link, just as likely as the pot on your Cube's laser. Don't futz with it until you have to. My Cube did not need any tweaking.

If it helps, The disks do function as they should. I popped a disc burned with the gameboy player on it, stuck it in my Wii, booted up Nintendont, and it launched it successfully. (Well, the wii doesn't have a gameboy player so i got the appropriate message, but you get the idea)

As far as i know the pot has never been tampered with so there is no way for testing the burned dvd-rs(besides using another system) since they only play on a tweaked pot. So pot tweak would be step 1

You can try an undersized flathead screwdriver, insert it in the center so it fits like this:

It should allow you to unscrew the screws easily.
Worked for my Switch JoyCons.

Ok, yeah if the disks you've burned are functioning on other hardware but not the available GCN, then time to pot tweak. Google around and/or watch some YT vids on how-to. I believe you can use a multimeter (if you have one) to establish your baseline value and fine tune your adjustments. Optional, but would keep you from losing track of how far you've gone from stock.

So update, I got my screw bits in the mail today and i opened up my Gamecube. I POT tweaked it to 208 Ohms and.....


IT WORKED! Thanks everyone on this thread for your help. I would have never been able to do this without you.

EDIT: Well, some backups work and others don't. Can someone tell me why that is?

EDIT: I got the disk to work. So why do sometimes i get an error and sometimes don't?

Gamecube uses 4.5mm gamebit, technically it's not the proper name, but is what the screws are commonly called (I forget what the proper name is).

Ah, I've seen screws like that before (on GBC games I think), I just didn't know what they were called.

Okay, new issue well, its kind of bad
Some backups result in a black screen when launched. I have a pal and NTSC version of LoZ: TW gamecube backup disc.
When i put the NTSC version disc (ISO) in my...

• Gamecube, i get the Nintendo logo, followed by a black screen
• Wii, i get an error saying the tray is open
• Dolphin, it works just fine

When i put the PAL version disc in my...

• Gamecube, i get the nothing because my TV is an American CRT TV
  
• Wii, I get a black and white screen. (If there is a way to fix this on a smart TV, please let me know)

So ya, that is my situation. I don't know if its the disc, or ISO, or what. I bring all this up because i burned a Gameboy Player disc and it seemed to launch just fine (Although i don't have the adapter, my GF does). So, what do y'all think?

So what would it need to be set to? When i first tested my Gamecube, it was at 192. After tweaking, its at 208?
It was not a huge change. So do I need to get it even closer to 200?

Well, i pot tweaked it to 201 and it still won't launch some backups (most importantly, it won't launch twilight princess). it will only show logos and then a black screen. I don't know what i'm doing wrong.
