Hello everyone.

I messed up.

I bought this wii U from someone on craigslist and it already had everything on there.

I have a 32 gb Wii u and everything was working fine until i deleted everything on my install folder on the SD card. Now when i try to start haxchi it gets stuck on a splash page of IOSHUA.

I can get into homebrew channel fine by pressing haxchi and holding down B.

Is there any way to fix this or will i have to reinstall rednand and so forth.

Fingers crossed for an easy fix please any help would be appreciated

So I would have to reinstall everything?

u'll have to reinstall the config.txt if u use haxchi to load mocha. make the change in the config.txt and reinstall haxchi with the app. it's pretty easy to do as everything will be automated. u can enable or disable redNAND if that's what ur wanting to use when u first boot mocha.

Sorry I'm a noob. How do I reinstall the config.txt and reinstall haxchi? Is this through the homebrew channel with the fw.img?

the fw.img won't be needed for mocha. u need to alter the patch name to the elf for default= in the config.txt. place that in the haxchi folder with the haxchi app (on this site). the app will have a haxchi folder. place the config.txt in there. originally, u'd have to use a command line with wupclient.py, so it's automated now. it will seem too easy once u do it once.

I'm confused. The patch name on my SD card? Isn't the config.txt just a normal txt file?

So I redownload the haxchi app from here and replace those files with the one on my SD card?

Sorry for being slow... pretty new to this.

the config.txt will be on the system itself, so u have to reinstall. if u have the haxchi app, place the config.txt in the haxchi folder. then, open the app through the homebrew channel.

ok I will check it out tomorrow.

I dont know if it makes a difference but I know the guy i bought it from said he put RedNand and Kirby Squeak Squad. Idk if that makes a difference.

Before I messed everything up I was able to play any game after pressing the haxchi app, and if I had wanted to go inside homebrew channel I press and hold B when i launch the haxchi app (which I am still able to do)

From my understanding from your post is that I need to reinstall the haxchi app from HBL. Before I reinstall I place the config txt file that is on my system into the haxchi app folder. If the system config.txt is on the system itself do i need to browse the files from my wii u and transfer it while on the wii u itself or do I need to somehow ssh into the wii u to get the file.

I started reading on the different softmods for wii u from my understanding im pretty protected from bricking my device since I am using RedNand. But I dont have the original sysnand dump.

Also Thanks @godreborn for the quick responses def put me at ease a little bit to have someone respond to me pretty promptly!

You may be safe as far as brick protection but redNAND has been known to corrupt itself in SD.

If you're just getting started I'd wipe the Wii U and start from scratch. Steer clear of rednand and instead use Mocha or HaxChi CFW. You can easily just redownload your games and install them with Wii U USB Helper.

Before you do anything though, make sure you aren't running CBHC

What's the best way to start from scratch? How do I completely wipe my Wii U and my SD card correctly

1st make sure you don't have CBHC installed. Do you see any text about autobooting on the gamepad when you first boot? If not then you're good to go.

Format your SD fully and format the Wii U. Then read my noob guide. In my sig and stickied in the forum

No there is no text about autobooting. I do not believe there is CBHC installed as every cold boot it would go into the sysNand.

Awesome! I will do that today once I get off from work.

Is there a special way to format the Wii U or do I just go in settings and format it.

EDIT Just read your guide.... Do I just use the same SD formatter that is linked in the guide that you told me to visit in the sticky? is there a partition that I need to get rid of first? I read that redNand takes up half the space on the SD card

Yes that's right. Use that formatter and tell it to autoadjust the size. It may fail after your first try but the 2nd will work fine after it's been resized the first try.

Thank you everyone for all your help.

I formatted my Wii U and my sd card. Started from scratch as you had suggested.

Ran into an issue where the sd card couldn't be mounted but then realized when I formatted it that it went to exFat. Once I got it to fat32 it was good to go.

You're simple guide for noobs was awesome and super easy to follow thank you so much for helping me.

Ended up putting haxchi cfw and followed your guide for the rest.

Thanks for the super quick replies and the great community support. I would've been very lost without y'all.
