I got a 256 GB microSD card with all games pre-installed.
I want to give my newphew a 3ds with a 128 GB card with games pre installed.
Now I don't want to convert a number of games, and also redowloading sux basically, all over again.

Can I just copy over the contents of the 256 GB over to the 128GB SD and expect it to work?
Thing is my entire game library takes from the 238GB, +- 170-180 GB. so it won't fit directly.

What would the easiest way to transfer over the whole thing? Copy over the 256 GB content to an external HDD. remove the games i dont want for my newphew. and then copy entire content over to 128GB. Then use 256 GB backup to restore my own library?

You mustve missed the part where i mention"remove the games I don't want for my newphew"
So basically just transfer the core of the library that is good and applicable for him.

The games installed on the 256gb SD card are encrypted for the console that it was installed on so it's not possible to use the data from one 3DS on another.

Would you be ok with re-downloading them using your computer? You can dump your title keys and then use CDN-FX to redownload them, and build CIAs:

Then throw the CIAs, minus the ones you don't want, on a SD card for your nephew. FBI has an option to install all CIAs in a folder, should make things a bit faster for you than manually re-installing everything.

Sure that sounds great. just that i tried a similair approach with freeshop and it had atleast +40 titles not on it ..
So if that method can download those aswell.. jap games etc.
Also taking into account that you need storage for the cia itself aswell. you'd have to it in batches, but thats doable i guess.

EDIT:
Just checked, it defitely has some games freeshop doesn't have. but it doesnt have them all.

FBI has a feature where you can delete CIAs after you install them. So you can probably install everything in one big batch, as long as you have a decent amount of free space for one game.

Ah yeah I remember that one. And How is dumping title keys done?

GodMode9 should be able to do what you need. It can dump your ticket.db as well as build encTitleKeys.bin from the titles installed on your 3DS.

Just dump your installed games as cias with GodMode9. Then you can install them on your nephew's console. You'll should delete enough games so that you are using less than half of the space on your card, or there won't be enough room. This means you won't have to download anything.

He said he didn't want to download them all again. I'm giving him the option that matches what he asked for.

I'm sure the reason he doesn't want to download them all again is because downloading 100+ games on a 3DS is a pretty shitty experience, no matter what you use.

Having to shuffle his files around back and forth to make free space for dumping CIA files is pretty tedious, and generating CIAs with a 3DS is really slow. As long as he has semi-fast internet, he'll almost surely be able to download them faster on his computer than the length of time it would take for him to dump them.

Dumping his title keys to a file, and then downloading CIAs on his computer is probably going to be the most hassle-free way to do this.

You should also probably make sure the 3DS has Kecleon if it's getting used by a kid, and leave off any kind of more powerful tools (FBI, LumaUpdater, HBL, etc.). Wouldn't want any kind of accidents to happen, after all.

What's the option for that?
