That's exactly what it sounds like, and it's for both. Anytime you mess with the NAND you risk a brick; that's just the nature of these types of hacks. Another reason the guide suggests Boot9Strap over Sighax, with the verification checks before it installs.
Didnt understand the point about guide suggests boot9strap over sighax,and does b9 installs on FIRM and a9 is on sd card

How come the guide stopped recommending using Higher clock speeds and L2 cache as an option to enable? Is it because its broken? I remember it was an option they had you enable along with show sys menu in nand or user string in system settings back in January. And autobot to sys menu (which is not needed anymore).

Pls correct me if im wrong between the difference of a9lh and sighax...
i know some of it is wrong (im just a typical 3ds user)
hope some one with better understanding (dev) can make a better diagram...
people can easliy understand things when they are being drawn (easy to understand, less words)... :-)

  • Normal boot: Bootrom -> [Bootrom lockout] -> Arm9loader -> [OTP lockout] -> Firmware
  • arm9loaderhax boot: Bootrom -> [Bootrom lockout] -> Arm9loader -> [OTP lockout] -> [Our hax].
  • Sighax boot: Bootrom -> [Bootrom lockout] -> [Our hax]
This is the proper process as explained in sighax page, a9 is pretty much like original loading whereas sighax bypasses some steps hence a little fast boot

Except that with sighax you need to reinstall it every time there is a Luma update (as sighax puts Luma into FIRM) while with boot9strap you just need to install it once. Not to mention you can't dump the bootroms with sighax but you can with boot9strap.

so its safe to use boot9strap method...

Yes, it is the safest method. Not only are there built in safety checks (thanks to safeb9sinstaller) to prevent bricking but it loads Luma (or whatever) from the SD card. You also need boot9strap if you want to dump the bootroms and otp.

What is NTRboothax? DSIware stuff?

It is a bootrom exploit that lets you use a specially formatted DS cart and a magnet to get bootrom access. In other words, the ability to install sighax or recover from almost any brick without needing a hardmod. Unfortunately such carts don't exist yet.

With L2 cache and higher clock speed enabled I noticed Ocarina of Time runs choppier in some areas for a brief time, it runs smoother when if it was off.

So it could be a game ds card or a ds flash card like thing?

Some DS flash carts will be compatible (acekard2i most certainly will) but otherwise it will require a specially designed cart similar to how nopass used to work (but with a sd card slot so you can copy a .bin or .firm payload to it).

I'm on 11.4. I'm not talking about sheikah stone, I'm talking about when running around Hyrule and Kokori forest, it looks like frames are dropped for a brief time then goes back to normal. it doesn't do this with the higher clock speed off. I'm on luma 3ds.

Edit: it does this with 3d enabled dropping frames, but with higher clock speed off it run smother with 3d enabled.

edit 2: its hugely noticeable when exiting kokiri forest to hyrule. Frames starts dropping around where you meet the owl, doesn't do this with cpu speed off.

    @Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

    @SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

    anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

    if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

    Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    @BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
    You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
    still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
    i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
