Hello there.
I've ran into serious problems with both my N3DS and N3DSXL. They keep crashing every now and then when booting apps, or returning to the home menu and sometimes don't wake from sleep. Neither of them will complete a system update either, they just stay at the "Updating system..." page, and the progress bar never fills.

I've removed A9LH and Luma hoping to fix the issues, however to my surprise, no go. Still crashes, both of them (at least my N3DS does, I haven't really touched my XL much, from fear of breaking it.) They fail to wake from sleep and they fail to update. I then taken out the SD cards, still neither of them will update.

Hardware is quite hard to break, at least it has been in my experience. Software is usually the main culprit.

Not trusting my back up's, is there a way I could reinstall the sysNand? I was looking at sysUpdater. I've downloaded 11.2.0-35E using the NUS downloader. Would it be possible? or would it make matters worse?

My N3DS is on 11.2.0-35E. I restored it to OFW to try and resolve my update issue mainly.
My N3DSXL is on 11.3.0 something, I also restored it from 11.2.0-35E dump, but it updated to 11.3. To my surprise, it fails to install 11.4, even though it did before and I never had a problem with it updating. I restored it to OFW as I wanted to sell it and I hoped OFW would mean it wouldn't crash when booting apps and waking from sleep.
Again, I don't think this is an SD Card problem. I get the crashes even when there not installed, unless the 3DS requires an SD Card?

A9LH and crashing problems are not related at all. (Unless you miss installed A9LH by having a user error).

Only way to "restore" your SysNAND to something else than a backup is to make a CTR Transfer to either 9.2 or 11.3.

Anyway, if there are issues, it's something you did wrong, maybe when installing, or maybe because of messing up with system files after installing. Sorry if it comes as a rude comment, but that's a fact (or both of your consoles are the exception where Luma and A9LH don't work as expected).

I followed the 3ds.guide
CFW was working fairly well. I have had issues in the past with crashing, however that was resolved with a new SD Card.

Funny how they both have very similar problems...

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Backup's were said to be fine. Decrypt9 checks them against hash... Could it really be a hardware issue? My XL is 8 to 12 weeks old. Might give the big N a ring and talk real sweet...

First, I made a sticky for a reason.
Your issues wasn't Luma3DS nor A9LH. Chances are if you had issues before the CFW, your system or SD card might be at fault. You should check your SD card to make sure it's not corrupt/fake.
As well you may want to send it to an expert for the to check to hardware. Because if it was crashing clean, that's a completely different issue.
