Got my PSTV for 50 euros 5 days ago, brand new, running 3.20 out of the box from an official Sony reseller. best 50 euros I ever spent in the past 5 years :P

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

5 vs 50 inches, choose please

Again - PSTV shoots out PSX, PSP and Vita games on 50" at 720p (apart from emulators)

Hi all, this would be great on switch, infact any emulation would be killer on switch!

I have a shield TV (2017) and have 1.4 PPSSPP on my shield running pretty damned well, however I cannot update it to one of the latest nightly builds from buildbot as it always says "apk is corrupt" any clues how to update it? Dolphin updates fine, I just need a pointer on this one please :)

Can your PSTV play Zelda: Breath of the Wild?

I have no idea, I never used buildbot.

After homebrew will come on the Switch, I'm thinking of a port of PPSSPP to Switch. It's basically an Nvidia Shield (which runs on android, and the same arhitecture as the Swtch), and it was realeased on android too. I'm thinking it wouldn't be too hard to port it, and then we could enjoy PSP games on the Switch.
Could this be possible?
wut? is Switch already got hacked?! O.o

If the Wii U used some ARM cpu architecture then it would have been almost impossible to be backward compatible with Wii and GC, which all use PowerPC architecture. The Wii U runs natively those consoles (with CPU under-clocking hacks) thanks to PowerPC architecture.

For the Switch, I doubt it would support Wii-U/Wii/GC games even in the future when it's completely hacked. The best we could hope for is some kind of emulator, or some ports of old games by developers themselves.

why even bother with PPSSPP on the switch when it run fine on any mid-range smartphone you most likely already have?
1. Physical buttons, no need for any third party controllers or stands or attachments.
2. Big screen compared to average person smart phone and can be displayed on a TV with ease
3. Hardware able to improve resolution with minimal frame drops or even none.
Etc

Does the Switch actually run Android though?
Runs Nintendo own operating system allowing games to be optimized for the hardware.

Right, that Capcom helped them write. But is it based on Android at all?

In my personal opinion I believe it is running a very modded android as options menu etc... For the settings looks a lot like android and also flight mode is there I'm sure. They may of worked along side Google on the firmware on this since they worked a long side Nvidia

It doesn't have any Android node afaik. Even if it's Android, it would been heavy modified to play different formats instead of classic .apk+.obb format.

According to reswitched the Switch OS is hard fork of the 3DS OS:

The Switch features a hard fork of the 3DS operating system, with many components rewritten. The kernel is derived from the 3DS kernel, not FreeBSD as was originally rumored. The console also makes use of the ARM TrustZone instead of a security coprocessor

This thread is useless. You could literally make any suggestion you wish. The Switch isn't even hacked yet and I doubt it will be since there aren't many apps to find possible exploits from. Not anytime soon at least. Stop getting your hopes up.

No, because the Switch isn't hacked.

EDIT: If its working on Nvidia Shield then why wouldn't it work on Switch? No reason to ask. And yes, once hacked it can be ported to Switch. (Weird question to ask)
it's the same hardware but different OS
i guess it won't be too hard, but you still have to port the libraries, dependencies and whatnot

i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol

They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways

you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market

Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and using LLMs to generate NPC dialogue and even dynamically generated quests is something i'm sure is already happening
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
will just take some time for games made using those things to be completed and released
