Hardware Laptop HDD Height Question

I am thinking about ordering a "MSI GT83VR Titan SLI-055", but have a question about the internal Hard Drive:

The Technical Specifications for that laptop say that it can support 1 Detachable 2.5" 9.5mm (H) SATA Hard Disk Drives. I am looking to replace the default 1TB HDD with a 5TB HDD I was going to order separately from Newegg site. Thing is, most of the laptop HDD's on that site are 15mm in height with higher storage capacities.

My question/concern is, does anyone know if that particular laptop I want to order supports 2.5" 15mm height HDDs? Thoughts and help greatly appreciated

Go by the tech specs. If it says it only supports 9.5mm HDDs, then that must mean either the cavity or the HDD brace they use inside the laptop is only 9.5mm deep.

On the other hand, some laptops have anti vibration pads stuck on the drive/brace which, when removed, gives space for 12mm drives to fit in. However if you take off the anti vibration pads, then the drive has less protection to knocks and impacts and in my experience that gives them a much shorter lifespan (I've seen them die within 6 months like that).

I am going to sell my current laptop to get a new one, the one I mentioned above. Anyway, what is the best way to get my current one ready for sale? Do I just do a Windows 10 Reset, and also choose the option to remove files? Thoughts and help appreciated

If you're not worried about your personal information, go for Windows 10 Reset and pick the option that says erase all data (I forget exactly what it's called).

If you are worried about your personal information, download DBAN and put it on a USB, boot to the USB and run DBAN to erase absolutely everything on the laptop.

If you're very worried about your personal information, run DBAN 3+ times and maybe consider finding an industrial erasing app that has varying algorithms for write/erase cycles.

9.5mm is pretty much the standard, and nearly all laptops (at least laptops sold within the last 15 years I'm certain of) will only fit up to a 9.5mm drive. The rest use a 7mm drive (most SSDs come in this size and come with a small spacer), although mSATA/mPCI/M.2/whatever is becoming a little more popular, but mostly just in ultrathins. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a laptop that supports a 12mm drive.
