Hacking Installing CFW

My previous topic got a bit messy, so i decided to start a new one.

Im using https://3ds.guide/installing-arm9loaderhax this guide to install CFW on my 3DS. i used CFW in the past, but i formatted my SD card. In the past i had Homemenu launcher and Luma3DS.

So far, the guide worked as it should be. I carefully followed every step but now i hit a wall. My 3DS already had FBI injected to H&S. I feel as if my current FBI is outdated, as i don't recognise it from what i need to do acording to the guide. At first i could install the CIA's i had to, but they were blackboxes that crashed my 3ds when i launched them. I then restored my SysNAND via Hourglass9 and tried again. It kept saying install failed untill i somehow changed something in FBI. I could install them again, but black boxes again. How can i fix this and continue with the guide? My original NAND is 9.0.0-20E. (a91h installed) i updated the SysNAND to latest.

My SysNAND is on latest. When wanting to update it says it is on latest.

Where in the guide did you stop? You don't really mention that exactly. Why did you just not follow the guide verbatim? Who cares if you had FBI already on there. Follow the guide as it is written.

Black boxes seems like it might've been an icon cache issue. Easily fixable. If you were unable to run the games after installing them (black box) then CFW wasn't kicking in. I would then ask if you backed up your SD card and tested it with h2testw before starting, as per the guide's instructions?

Section V - Injecting FBI

1. Boot your device while holding (Start) to enter Hourglass9
2. Go to “SysNAND Backup/Restore”, then select the “Health&Safety Dump” option to dump Health & Safety to hs.app (you can use Up and Down / Left and Right to change the name)
3. Press (B), then select the “Health&Safety Inject” option
4. Input the key combo given
5. Select the FBI injectable .app for your region
6. Press (A) and confirm to inject
7. Press (Start) to reboot
8. If you still launch to the stock Health & Safety app and have downgraded with Gateway in the past, follow this troubleshooting guide

There already is an FBI injected to my Health and Safety, and i don't recognize my FBI app there from the one mentioned in the guide for the next step.

Section VI - Finalizing setup

1. Open Health and Safety (which is now FBI)
2. Select “SD”
3. Select “cias”
4. Select “<current directory>”
5. Select the “Install all CIAs” option, then press (A) to confirm
6. Return to the SD directory with (B)
7. Navigate to arm9loaderhax.bin, then press (A) on it and select the “Copy” option
8. Return to the FBI main menu with (B)
9. Select “CTR NAND”
10. Select “<current directory>”
11. Select the “Paste” option, then press (A) to confirm
12. Exit with the home button
13. Launch the Homebrew Launcher from the home menu
14. Select “DSP Dump”
15. Press (Start) when prompted to exit
16. Press (Start) to open the Homebrew Launcher exit menu
17. Press (A) while holding (Start) to reboot into Hourglass9
18. Go to “SysNAND Backup/Restore”, then select “Health&Safety Inject”
19. Select hs.app (the original one that doesn’t contain FBI), then press (A) and confirm to inject
20. Press (Select) on the main menu to eject your SD card
21. Press (Start) to reboot with the SD card removed
    • Booting the device at least once with the SD card removed will allow you to configure the CTRNAND based Luma3DS installation
22. Use the (A) button and the D-Pad to turn on the following:
    • “Show NAND or user string in System Settings”
23. If you are using a New 3DS, you can also enable the following:
    • “New 3DS CPU” to “Clock+L2(x)”
    • This will increase the framerate of many games, but may cause instability in others
    • If some games do not work properly, disable this option and try again
    • This breaks the Homebrew Launcher on 11.3!
24. Reinsert your SD card, then press (Start) to save and reboot!

The .app are for injecting FBI into H&S. They wouldn't necessarily match the FBI currently on your system. What version of FBI is on your system currently btw? However, if you're already that far into the guide, you already have A9LH on there and are already booting from CFW. Why not just load up FBI, use that to install the latest version of FBI (https://github.com/Steveice10/FBI/releases/). A new FBI will then appear as a gift. Open it and use that to finish the guide. You can also use that to delete the FBI injected H&S app. Perform a system update and your system will restore the proper H&S app.

Why are you redoing the guide again? Formatting SD does not get rid of a9lh. All you really needed to do was copy Luma3DS, starter pack, payloads, and any CIAs you want to install on to the SD. You could have just used the H&S FBI to install the latest FBI.

Try the troubleshooting section of the guide. You're leaving out too much information to help. Provide complete information about your past setup and current setup.

Ok im going to try to explain it as good as i can.

Then i went to Luma together with Boot exploit (The one that would start luma instantly) I then formatted the SDcard to use it for other purposes. Since a few days i wanted to install CFW again on the 3DS. I followed https://3ds.guide/ upto the point where i had to inject FBI. But since i already had FBI injected, i tried to continue with the next step. But my injected FBI is different from the one mentioned in the guide. (I don't have the same options as the guide does, such as

I did manage at some point to install the 3 CIA's, FBI,Homebrewchanal and Lumaupdater. But they all ended up as blackboxes. Upon launching those, the HBC and FBI logo appeared, but the 3DS froze. I then restored sysnand with the option to keep a9hl and tried again. I couldnt install them then, but after some switching with the L and R buttons i managed to again, but again with black boxes.

So what do i need to do to be able to continue wth the guide?

Do the troubleshooting section of the Guide. It specifically mentions it if you used Gatewait/Brickway in the past to do the troubleshooting section.

Thing is, i never downgraded with Gateway..
Cannot inject H&S on Gateway downgraded device

Gateway was plug and play.

Do not reformat your SD card, that will not help. Do not start the guide over again, that will only increase the risks to accidentally upgrading to 11.3 and or bricking your system. These are not good troubleshooting methods and should be avoided
Looking it up, the black boxes are not Luma3DS related nor are they related to A9LH. Apparently the black boxes are caused when by installing a CIA to the NAND that's not suppose to be installed to the NAND. You need to go through and delete those using FBI and or restore a previous NAND.

What version of FBI are you using? This error should have been patched out
Also can you install games?

Seems like installing the cias goes fine now, now that i noticed i needed to switch destination to nand instead of SD, but i can´t navigate to ´´Navigate to arm9loaderhax.bin, then press (A) on it and select the “Copy” option´´

Also still black boxes on the cias.

Okay i sucesfully installed the CIAs now. It failed on SD mode cuz i had to open the store first to make some files..
