do you have a 4K Sony bravia TV?
it might be able to scale 720P to 4K much better than the switches dock internally scaling up to 1080P then the TV scaling it up to 4K!

You didn't say how old it is, which is way more relevant than "1500 lbs". Sounds like it's 720p native resolution, which of course would look better a 720p even if it's capable of running 1080p (downscaled).

It's 1 year old and it's definitely 1080p 1500pounds is the price not weight

Well, same thing applies to 1080P
The Switches Internal res is lower than 1080P and is being scaled up to 1080P through the dock.
The Sony TV is probably handling the 720P in upscaling much better than the docks 1080 upscale

That's crap from the dock then as obviously my tv is better at upscaling

If you're referring to just the UI/menu and not gameplay, then it's because the Switch UI will always display at 720p. If you set output to 1080p, the UI simply gets resized with a bilinear filter which makes it look blurry. For some reason it doesn't properly upscale to 1080p and when you set it to output to TV at 720p, it looks better because it's running at native resolution without using a bilinear filter.
