I'm sorry for the large amount of stupid questions and I know that if something's working fine I shouldn't change it, so if you don't want to waste your time on me you really don't have to.
I have a modded WiiU, I have Haxchii installed and I use sigpatcher2sysmenu. I stopped following WiiU modding around when MochaCFW and CBHC came out and were considered kinda risky to install, so I didn't do that. Lately I came back to see what progress was made and as far as I can see, they became much safer and basically the standard. My question is, should I start using them too? Is it worth it? Or should I stick to what I have now?
I've read that MochaCFW supports FAT32 hard drives and that would be really useful to me.
If the answer is yes, I have a couple more questions:
Is a 64 GB or more SD Card required if I have a black WiiU?
If I want to use a FAT32 hard drive, is there some way to copy the games I have already installed on my current WiiU hard drive?
And if I follow this guide https://wiiu.guide/ , can I skip the first steps until the Haxchii installation, or should I revert my WiiU back to Vanilla and start from scratch?
Again, sorry for the large amount of questions but I want to be safe with my WiiU. Thanks in advance!

Mhm but Mocha CFW FAT32 HDD is just a no-no.
Games need Loadiine to run defeating the purpose of "FAT32", needs additional patch to remove USB format prompt screen.
Just format your HDD to Wii U format and install games to home menu.
Only install CBHC if Haxchi boots homebrew just fine. Unplug USB storage devices when you're installing CBHC. [This will ensure that you will not get partial CBHC]
Oh, CBHC must be on NAND [Internal Storage]
Use CBHC built-in CFW [Autoboot to: sysmenu]
Then you're basically done.

DON'T FOLLOW wiiu.guide. It's using outdated methods and is just a copy&paste version of 3ds.guide

Yeah, I did some more research and I read that the Mocha CFW FAT32 HDD thing is still unofficial, so for now I'm not going to bother with it. You're saying that I should install CBHC and I shouldn't install Mocha CFW? Not just for the HDD, but in general.
Thanks for the answer!

You don't install "Mocha CFW" you just put .elf file in wiiu/apps/mocha
It's useless since it adds additional boot time with CBHC [+5-20s?]

Nah, just use Haxchi's built in CFW (default=sysmenu in config)
CBHC adds some brick risk and is not worth it IMO since you can run Haxchi directly from the quick start menu making boot time the same.

What is the easiest way to get haxchi on the quick boot menu? Also anyone else using haxchi, or homebrew channel, make sure to disable online activity by going to friends and changing privacy settings in online mode. (Same for 3DS) Just to be safe no one see you using those things. :P

Also does anyone know how to get the mocha logo to load using only haxchi? I have been using haxchi to auto boot mocha cfw for FTPIIU EVERYWHERE but someone mentioned i don't need to. Still i like seeing the mocha logo during boot transitions :)

Haxchi just showed up on the quick start menu for me. It shows up as the original DS game though.
They won't actually see you using Haxchi or HBL, it will just show up as Mii Maker (unless you use the HBL channel version then I'm not sure)

It's kind "beta" can't install games, can't move games to from internal.

At least was possible only to mound HDD as a SD only and not as a WII U HDD + SD. I Could install games from one HDD to another one. But can't use 2 HDD same time Wii U wont acept.

But it's useful for
Install games from FAT32HDD to Internal memory with WUP
(Fast to copy games to HDD then MicroSD)

Teste games with loadiine? rsrsr

Launch Haxchi 5 times and reboot your Wii U, it should appear now.

I hope it's okay to hijack the thread slightly. Is using Haxchi over CBHC preferable? I don't have either yet and was in the process of preparing to CFW.

If Haxchi can run CFW games downloaded from the USB Helper, is it just better to use it like you said, from the quickstart menu?

CBHC is CFW at BOOT. Haxchi requires activation to use cfw. Think about is as Using 3DS with EMUNAND or PSP pro CFW with fastboot. You need to activate it everytime you boot the console. That what haxchi is. :P

CBHC is simply a more permenant solution but since it normally requires making a backup of NAND on the SD card depdning on system (8GB WII U need 16GB SD 32GB wii u need 64GB SD) The process called REDNAND And if you don't use NAND backup instead, mean potential risk of brick. I don't recommend it.

I use haxchi, just install games to USB HDD first if using wupinstaller to be safe, if it works fine, then transfer to system memeory if you want. Also legit games (Ones on eshop and retail) don't need to have cfw active to play, but it does for everything else like Eshop only games, and dlc)

I already install to a USB HDD using wupinstaller, legit games. I wanted to install some CFW only games, GBA titles, DS titles, things like that. Is that entirely possible just using Haxchi?

Is Rednand something recommended? I'm basically only installing games to a HDD, i'm not using it for much else.

Yes is possible using haxchi. The only difference between "CBHC" and Haxchi is COLD BOOT HAXCHI. Again, it boots CFW from the moment your system is powered on.

I don't use it since i don't have intention of using rednand or risk bricking console (Which is the purpose of REDNAND) Red nand is a opinion thing. Is simply a copy of your systems current setup stored on a SD card. CBHC loads it during power boot to automatically enter CFW without having to select HAXCHI at the menu to load CFW. That is the only difference. I wouldn't use REDNAND simply cause
  • Can't load vwii from it
  • Requires a SD card to flash the NAND to in the first place
  • If at any point your REDNAND is bricked, you need to reflash it again from the regular one.
Using haxchi is safe and no problem, as long as you don't do something dumb like install something without knowing what it is. If you just want VC and ESHOP games from the wup installer then is completly safe.

You know, CBHC doesn't use redNAND, it can boot Mocha which can boot redNAND

CBHC is recommended to use its internal CFW which boots sysNAND. and fyi, if it wasn't for CBHC Haxchi wouldn't like have the sysmenu option (since it is just from CBHC)
'

Your last 2 points of redNAND is kinda dumb, as the whole point of redNAND is to have a thing that is safe to install to and be able to unbrick (if you brick your sysNAND then you are fucked.)

I'm not lazy enough to risk bricking my console just to save a couple minutes, so that answered my question. Being European and having an early Wii U, I got a free copy of brain training, so i'll use that.

Okay, just use haxchi then, just know if you do, you can't play that brain train game with haxchi installed. :P

Seriously i use it since is just simple for me. Take about 15 second to use. I'm not saying REDNAND isn't safe, just tedious for stuff like the NAND flashing to sd, having a big storage, and the fail rate of SD cards i just wouldn't wanna use it. Your system is safe that way since is all on the SD card but if anything happens to SD card, either the REDNAND gets bricked or the sd stop working, you back to the beginning.

The whole purpose of REDNAND is to keep your actual system safe, by using the SD card instead of the system itself. But if you don't do anything dumb with the system it wouldn't be a issue.

I'm not modding games or anything like that. I basically just want CFW titles and DLC :P

Safe, until redNAND decided to pull off "?" on DS VC game in home menu and you're basically screwed.
redNAND is only good to dump NAND, nothing else. [Oh and for developers]
Still, i wouldn't use redNAND at all, it's barely useful and corrupts every 2-3 reboots.
