Is this even Mario anymore? Whatever happened to saving Peach from the castle and annihilating Bowser for stealing YOUR girl?! This is worse than Super Mario 3D land! This is based in the city!

The only acceptable retro game that has been based in a city and been a great game is Sonic Adventure DX and 2! Super Mario Odyssey is a great advancement in the graphical stage, but perhaps sticking to the classic Mario storyline is better than making the game seem more modern than their previous titles.

This game looks much worse than Super Mario 3D Land. In fact, it looks like this game will be the same thing as Super Mario 3D land except bigger! Huge disappointment from Nintendo, and I love Nintendo.

It's sad to see what they have come to.
Did you even watch the trailer, there was a lot of footage outside of the city level. There was the ice desert place, the low poly fruit volcano place, and the forest area. Not to mention that there will be more as it was a reveal trailer, not a release trailer

I am convinced you are just looking for stuff now. USB-C is a *connection technology*...the chips at either end do the work. Everything with a USB-C connector "doesn't just" for *myriad* reasons.
More importantly, again, Nintendo has *clearly and repeatedly stated* their position on this, no matter how many times bloggers, forum respondents or anyone else tries to "re-write" their product narrative. Hell, it is literally the *first thing they say* in their overviews: "The Nintendo Switch is a Home Console that connects to your TV".

There is nothing in anything *Nintendo* has ever said that should lead you or anyone else to believe that Nintendo's product and intent was, as you described it, "a portable device that I am able to use on the go and quickly connect to a TV".

This is literally not that product nor has Nintendo ever said it was. Why there was any expectation that you could connect the thing to a TV without the path that was built for connecting to a TV and other things, is 100% beyond any data I am aware of to support this.

Additionally, why would they have Gamecube VC? The more likely scenario would be remakes, because then you don'T have to try to emulate an entire PowerPC architecture on ARM. No one even said they would. Again...fishing.

The product is what it is.
Did you really just deny the fact that this device is not meant to be portable? Might I direct you to the commercial where the Switch is featured on a plane. Oh, but you're absolutely right. It's not meant to be used on the go. Using the Switch on a plane definitely doesn't make it an "on to go" device.

The commercials for the Switch make the device look to be portable, and that is a BIG percentage of the hype. The Switch is both a home console and a portable device. It's sad to see that you try to disprove my opinions with Nintendo's intentions. Does this make it wrong for me to want something more from Nintendo? I guess so.

It really seems like you enjoy to shit in people's desires when it comes to hearing rumors. A major rumor about the Switch was the idea of it supporting GC VC.
You act as if it's wrong to hope to see something new come to their consoles.

In case you didn't notice, I'm not "all-knowledgable" on the device's capabilities. We don't know for sure if this is the path the Switch is going. I'd sure hope that this isn't the path it's heading down.

You don't seem to understand that these are all rumor's I hope to either be true or false.

are you honestly trying to put down a Mario game for NOT having the same story as its predecessors?

Absolutely. Loved the idea for Cat-Bowser too. Made the game 100x better. The cat suit was an amaing idea.

Did you not read my comments? I said I would love to see Nintendo stick to the way they have been designing their games for years. Everything about this game seems way too childish. But then again, it is a kid's game right? What the hell is a 17 year old playing these games for.

The city is the hub world, much like 64's castle or Sunshine's Delfino Plaza. It's pretty obvious from the trailer that there are several different worlds you can reach from there. Bowser and Peach were both in the trailer doing their typical thing too, so I don't know why you think they wouldn't be included as main story pieces.

The modern aspect disappoints me, as stated before. Reminds me too much of Sonic Adventure DX.

Let's be honest: if games couldn't reuse locations/themes from other games, there would be a total of like 10 games in the world. The city thing has never been done in Mario before, and it looks distinct from the artistic style found in Sonic Adventure anyway. That was what? Three generations ago?

Again, my opinion. I respect your opinion, but I would politely disagree. Usually the Mario games bring a level of nostalgia to me and this new game doesn't seem to do that. The last game to do that for me was SMG 1 & 2.

No. The person whom you were responding to was trying to refute the 'connect to a TV anywhere' point, which NO trailer has showed the Switch doing.

Back to my first comment, I was calling this idea bull shit. Not sure what the point to his comment was. Couldn't even understand half of his comment with his grammar lmao.

Stop trying to be intentionally obtuse. Showing it being used *away from a TV* is *exactly* on point...but it is a Home Console you can do this with. It isn't a phone or a 3DS. it is not a "Portable"...it is a *transportable*.

I fly. A lot. I can use many things on a flight. Some need to be plugged in. Some have batteries to be used when they are not. The Switch is one of those things. Not sure what point you were trying to make.

The commercials for the Switch make the device look to be portable,

...it is portable... not "a portable" in the sense you are intimating, but...go on...

and that is a BIG percentage of the hype. The Switch is both a home console and a portable device. It's sad to see that you try to disprove my opinions with Nintendo's intentions. Does this make it wrong for me to want something more from Nintendo? I guess so.

Essentially...yes...if your desire is more than they said they are selling and your "disappointment" is based on your own imagination, assuming you are an adult...yes. You are wrong.

It really seems like you enjoy to shit in people's desires when it comes to hearing rumors. A major rumor about the Switch was the idea of it supporting GC VC.

I *believe* it is wrong to ding them for not fulfilling your dreams when they best they've offered is "have some fun". Yes. Furthermore it is unbelievably damaging when people try to write their own narratives and churn them thru the Internet Rumor Mill. No company should be held to the "didn't match the foppery on some rumor blog - NO SALE!" metric/standard.

In case you didn't notice, I'm not "all-knowledgable" on the device's capabilities. We don't know for sure if this is the path the Switch is going. I'd sure hope that this isn't the path it's heading down.

Correct. You literally do not know :)

You don't seem to understand that these are all rumor's I hope to either be true or false.

Why? Does it even matter? Look it is fun to speculate, but when it devolves into an angsty hand-ringingfest over made-up stuff...it is better that someone waves and like says "dude, chill man".

Maybe that's the Cali in me tho :)

Exactly. What they have been showing is essentially 'like the cool thing from the WiiU, but like, not lame, since our metrics and research showed practically no one cared about making a TV into a Giant DS...they just wanted to play the same game, but not just on a TV'.

Why people are trying to make it into some other thing besides essentially this, delivered in VERY simple messaging...ugh :)

it is not a "Portable"...it is a *transportable*.
Here, let me define portable for you. "able to be easily carried or moved".
I don't know, the Switch looks pretty damn portable considering it's being used on a plane. That is a portable device. It has battery life. It can be used wherever you go. Portable.

"especially because of being a lighter and smaller version than usual". The Switch can be a home console. The games for the Switch can be displayed on a TV. The games can be taken where you go. Portable. It is a portable device.

Just pointing out your hypocrisy for calling it transportable rather than portable, but then stating that it is in fact portable.

Essentially...yes...if your desire is more than they sayd they are selling and your "disappointment" is based on your own imagination, assuming you are an adult...yes. You are wrong.

Like you said, we don't know everything yet. All these bloggers are wrong, according to Nintendo, right? Just like you said?

That was rhetorical. That is what you said.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this happens anyways...with every product. Usually that's what tends to happen when companies don't fulfill their customer's desires, especially considering we are the ones paying them to progress with their designs.

Correct. You literally do not know

Nor do you. As you said before, just rumors, right?

Why? Does it even matter? Look it is fun to speculate, but when it devolves into an angsty hand-ringingfest over made-up stuff...it is better that someone waves and like says "dude, chill man".

"Made-up" is a very relative term considering a majority of rumors come out to be true. The iPhone 7's rumors were all completely true. Everything speculated was correct. Everything the customer wanted was brought together. Without rumors and speculation, companies would struggle with improvement.

I have no idea what you do for a living, but that is exactly how it does not work when you are building products like this. Not *at all*.
Rumors that turn out to be true are LEAKS. Rumors that talk about things in CONTRAST to publicly verifiable evidence are just...bullshit :) See: Apple Rumors all day long :D

Regardless...the amount of portability is immaterial to you making up features no one said they built. Remember - "Switch cant do HDMI out w/o dock"

Nintendo makes this. Nowhere have they ever said it would do otherwise. Being unhappy about this in any way seems silly. I paid $300 for each Switch I have purchased, each one of them comes with a purpose-built, tested and designed piece of hardware made to support peripheral connectivity, smoothly transition states, etc.

For as much as I have paid for these things...why would I trust some half-ass crap I pick up on Amazon on Day Zero again? I have no idea if some $20 dongle is going to work or not or damage my console. Or maybe a $49 "hub". Why risk it when I can either unplug the damned Dock (it isn't big, obviously) and throw it in my bag?

It is like people that buy expensive "X" and cheap aftermarket crap that ends up causing more problems than money saved.

Nintendo doesn't like to reinvent the wheel if they don't have to. However, it may not have standard HDMI over Type-C. I think it's been in developement before the standard, so it might be using displayport over type-C with the dock converting to HDMI. Or it may not.

but even if it is, it's trivial to make a little displayport-to-hdmi chip that's embedded into the cable.

HOWEVER:

The Switch needs higher power in TV mode. While it may be possible that it will work on battery but uses 720p and low settings, I don't think that would work. I think we may not see a simple cable. But with the current dock being passive-cooling only, I can see someone coming out with a tiny 1"x2"x1/2" dock that has HDMI and power connectors while giving the switch ample airflow.

Is it just me, or does it seem like Nintendo is constantly cutting corners with its consoles?
I mean, considering this is the first hybrid console and it's almost as powerful as an XB1, it feels more like Sony and MS cut too many corners with their comparatively lackluster consoles. Same reason I hadn't bothered buying any current-gen console up until now, they don't do anything a PC can't do 1000x better.
