Hacking Help my friend! (Homebrew Launcher boot problem)

My friend decided to mod his 3DS and install CFW onto it. I helped it and went very smoothly until we got to the last section of the 3ds guide. When he had to get onto the Homebrew Launcher to startup DSP Dump, the cia said the payloads were not for his version. When he tried to launch it through the music app with soundhax, he was kicked to the home screen. I have no idea whats up and I hope we can find a straight answer!

He uses:
Old 3DS
Latest version
Soundhax
FBI

He IS connected to the internet

What version is he on? If he updated to 11.3 then homebrew launcher won't work anymore.
Just skip that step (only gives sound to certain homebrew apps)

Well, he was on the latest update in the beginning, then downgraded it like the 3ds guide said, the reupdated it. We just followed the guide for soundhax.

Why unlucky?

If he followed the guide he should have a 11.2 nand backup (or whatever version he was on when he started).
