Okay, so I haven't really been up with the hacking scene for the 3DS in a while and so I decided to update my 3DS. Now I kind of have a problem and maybe someone can help me out.

I visited this page: https://3ds.guide/

I clicked [Get Started] and clicked on the 3DS since I'm using a old 3DS XL. My sysNAND firmware is 4.2 U and I clicked "Decrypt9 (MSET)" on the column 4.0.0-4.5.0. I followed STEPS 1-9 just fine and onto the next page "2.1.0 ctrtransfer."

The warning of "Having a backup of your device’s NAND is REQUIRED. You will be prompted to create one as part of the steps if you do not already have one."

I definitely followed that and made a backup of my sysNAND (NANDmin.bin). And it was successful. Or so I thought....?

Anyway, I followed STEPS 1-8 on the "2.1.0 ctrtransfer" page (downloaded all necessary files, copied/moved them onto my SD card..etc).

Afterwards, I continue onto the next page " Installing arm9loaderhax"
Then downloading all the necessary files on this page and following each section step by step up until "
Section IV - Restoring the System." Then came STEP 3 : Go to “SysNAND Restore (keep a9lh)” and restore from NANDmin.bin.

On my 3DS, I select the restore sysNAND (keep a9lh) option (in Hourglass9 v1.40) and I get this message:

Selected: [SysNAND Restore (keep a9lh)]
No usable file found
SysNAND Restore (keep a9lh): failed!

Press B to return, START to reboot.

Did I do something wrong? If the SD card isn't inserted, the blue light turns off right away and shuts the 3DS down.

If the SD card is left inside, the screen stays black.

And if I turn it on with the SD card inside and the screen is black and then I remove the SD card, it loads into the 3DS main screen. Please help, thank you.

Hold start when u turn 3ds on to get into hourglass9
You may have to toggle the arrow pad to select the nandmin backup

U could put the card in computer and look to see if the file is there on the card. I think it's in files9 folder

When u turn it on and then pull out sd card if u go to settings what firm does it say

Yep, that's what I do, is hold start to enter hourglass. And The file is nowhere to be found on my SD.

Either you in fact did not make a backup (Do you distinctively remember making a backup which probably took several minutes if not longer to complete?), or you've deleted the files9 folder in which the backup was at some point during the guide. There's no way that you did make a backup but the file disappeared into the ether - that does not happen.

There's really no point to gloss over the details as to how/why though. Follow Quantumcat's advice, and do 9.2 CTR transfer instead.

I did make one, even before it asked me if I wanted to make a back up, I made a backup of the nand prior to that option. I just dunno what happened but anyways...

Like I said before. Without the SD inserted, the light goes on and then fades off, when I turn on the 3DS.

But when I have the SD inserted and then turn it on, the light stays on and I get a backlight on both bottom and top screen but nothing happens with a black screen.

And if I remove the SD card when that happens with the backlight coming on with the black screen, it seems to load like normal into the 3DS main screen.
However, the FW now says Ver. 2.1.0-4U but before I did all of this, it said Ver. 4.2.0-9U.

But okay I'll try 9.2 CTR transfer.

Might be possible you chose a dif name for the nand back up. I think the file size is located in the guide. You could look for a file in files9 folder that size to see
Or do ctrtransfer for 9.2 like said and prob make a nand backup once on that
