Is it normal for a 3ds to take 2-3x longer to startup than before a custom firmware?

just want to know to make sure i did everything right.
Also the 3DS doesnt Load without a SD card, is this normal?

If you have a bigger sd card then it will take longer for the homemenu to show.
If you use menuhax then it will take forever. Update from menuhax to a9lh by following https://3ds.guide/

For the sdless boot just follow https://3ds.guide/updating-a9lh (if you have a9lh)

Open FBI, SD, then go to "arm9loaderhax.bin", copy then exit back to "CTRNAND" "current directory" and paste.

I got two A9LH 64gb systems and they are a little slow loading titles when powering on.

Then you have a9lh. Just use to update a9lh so your 3ds can boot without an sd card https://3ds.guide/updating-a9lh

You don't need to. You can just copy and past arm9loaderhax.bin to ctrnand.

He might be using an older build of a9lh that doesn't read from ctrnand.
Otherwise he would have had it in he ctrnand already

Larger SD cards make the 3DS take longer to boot. This would affect a stock console as well, by the way.
