Really, I think it would be much easier if there were a public payload for 8.1 systems like you said :P
IIRC Ninjhax 2 needs 9.0+ to at least boot

Does Ninjhax 2 need a browser to run too? I forgot

I'll test that out in a bit

OK so I deleted my browser, and I booted soundhax.

It booted like normal

This means, one can update with a cart to 9.5J, then use soundhax to boot HB and downgrade to 9.2J

Unless I'm missing something?

no, you weren't missing anything. I meant you can use soundhax to enter hbl and use sysdowngrader to downgrade to v9.2
I believe that the browser part on any *hax is to download the payload(?) But since Soundhax has the payload included with the otherapp, its a fully offline hax!

This means that Soundhax is the solution for anyone that's on 1.x-8.x without a browser, and will only need a 9.x Cart or a 10.x cart then use Soundhax again to downgrade

If anyone thinks that I missed something or just did something dumb, let me know. I am always here to learn more :3

So I used this on my new 3ds its working good...... but i had to ask any way to get a cfw with this....... last time i missed with this stuff was back in the day when i used rxTools and it bugged out and updated me to the newest fw.
What firmware u on?

It seems soundhax is compatible now with EUR and JAP consoles ;)
btw what the advantage of using the HBC on a new3DSXL ? can backups be played ?

As you said, ninjhax 2 is only 9.0+
But I heard that there was a way to launch homebrew on lower versions if you compile your own payload, which seems to be a pain in the *ss

I used soundhax to install hbl on my new 3dsxl firmware 11.2.0-32E and it all worked great. now I want to launch gateway launcher however I get a black screen, what options do I have now to run roms ?
