I know but it uses ds hardware on 3ds only so I was wondering would it be do able on a Dsi with sudoku hax because you can load Dsi hb with it I have not seen any one try the newer Dsi hb menu though with bootstrap support

Hi, I was wondering this for quite some time: If we want to play DS backups on our 3DS we still need to use a DS flashcart. Well, no problem there, I have a Supercard DS2. But still, I'm wondering we never anyone coded a homebrew that is able to load DS Roms from SD card. I mean, it is quite a logival step. Is there any technical reason why this is not possible or extremely difficult to achieve? Or did the dev just dont think that something like this is important?
The big problem with running retail DS cart roms off of an SD card is that all DS games that come in retail carts are hard-coded to attempt to read from and write to the cartridge slot. You'd need to patch the games to read from and write to the SD card slot. Technically, flashcarts need to do something like this too; patching the game to read from and write to the microSD slot in the flashcart instead of the cartridge itself, AFAIK. This is called DLDI patching, and any flashcart firmware or kernel software does this automatically in the background. The short story version is that there are people who are working on software that will automatically patch roms on the fly, but they're not quite there yet. When the software works, it's slow and low-compatibility. A Christmas release has been teased by one of the devs, however. Any such release would likely be alpha or beta software and still far less reliable than a flashcart, but it's interesting to see the progress of the project regardless.

DLDI is only for homebrew software, which must access specific files (not embedded in the .nds rom) on the micro SD.
Flashcards mimic the same cartridge protocol for regular ROM and save access, with no patching needed to the code executing on the console generally.

@BakerMan, Any idea what happened? I hope that your brother's doing good.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
He couldn't eat until after his MRI, when he had a bomb pop.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
What matters now is that he's doing alright.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But you still don't know what it was?
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Has he had seizures before?
