i think my m3 battery needs to be replaced
the battery seems to still hold saves but the rtc stops after a few hours, and if i leave it for a long time, the rtc will get reseted back to 2000 never lost my saves anyway...

from some threads i found people mentioned this is a rechargeable battery, and from my testings it is indeed a rechargeable battery (if i played for a while the rtc would start to work again for a few hours when the console is turned off) and just tested with a multimeter, after a night, the multimeter was reading about 0.30V
after leaving the console on for a couple hours the multimeter read the battery a little above 2 volts...

anyone knows original specs of the battery? like how much it would last from 1 charge, and how much time does it need to get a full charge? i am tempted to leave my console ON for 2 days or something to fully charge this thing and see if it can hold a charge

also, has anyone made a mod which can make the process of swaping the battery easier? i really hate how theese things use solded tabs

and of course i am also looking for the model of the battery and where i can get it in europe... i remember seing that china does no longer ships batteries or something...

Someone asked what battery size it used before and I had a picture of the measurements.
IMG_300310b.JPG

The difference in diameter is due to the plastic shrink wrap around the battery.

The battery diameter is 12.5mm, that is the same size as what the 3in1 uses. A CR1220.

The closest thing to the specs on the battery will be here: http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/CR-1220/FCN/P279-ND/1874890
It is not the same, but for coin cell batteries they will be nearly identical.

I replaced the battery in my m3 perfect a while back, it wasn't a rechargeable battery.

If your looking into a coin cell holder of some type, it would look something like this: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10730
Except, nobody seems to carry anything smaller than a 20mm holder, it would have to be a custom low production run of some type. That would be on top of filling away the excess sides on the PCB to make it fit in the footprint of the cart case.
(I would buy such a holder so I can cram them into my flashcarts, so I don't have to buy batteries with tabs)

If you know a shop/vendor or site that deals with Arduino and the like, you might find something.

I believe the transport bans were related to something about exploding batteries. QA being crap in China if your buying from lowest price seller etc.

really weird, i measured with a multimeter, after playing a while the battery outputs a lot more voltage than before...
left my console on for an entire day, the battery lasted an entire day and it's still running

from it's behavior i really thought it charges.. if it didn't charge it would just die and and stop working eventually..

thanks for the info!
i will try to take this into a battery shop or something, maybe they can help me with the soldering and ordering a battery..

after this playing around, the card is acting weirdly, it started to randomly crash while playing a game, yesterday it couldn't boot games of 16MB and bigger sizes (loaded the game and just when it was suppose to start it get stuck in a white screen...
however today it happears to be working fine...

Did you ever figure out what type of battery and how to replace it? I can't seem to find any batteries with the same type of soldering tabs that are parallel to each other anywhere

i remember you having the the MINI SD versions, at least i don't recall you having the lite version that i do own..
i also own the full SD version (the one that is almost the size of a GBC cart)
they use different types of battery, so the size of my m3 lite battery extremely like it's different than yours m3 sd\mini sd...

anyway, the M3 lite (the one in this thread i talked about) i took it into a store that sells components to repair stuff and they assured me it was a rechargeable battery and said it would cost me 17 euros to replace it and they would apply it themselves... however i didn't ask about the type or size of the battery, because i was happy they would do it themselves i have no experience in soldering, neither materials and i thought, if they ruined it, they would be responsible for it

the battery of the m3 lite seems it lasts a few hours after playing a while, so it kinda holds a charge.. i didn't really bothered to change it yet because i preefer a dead battery and use the boktai trick to change the date\time, than an entire ruined card...

The choice of chemicals used inside determines the voltage (and the most common lithium nonrechargeables have indeed a different combination than the most common lithium rechargeables)
"LI" is not a valid chemical in the standard battery naming convention, but at 3,6V it's clearly a li-ion

What's more interesting is that from the photos of the card, there is nothing (at least on that side) that resembles a charger...

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
