Gaming Hard Mod and VGC

Hi all, so a few months ago, I sent my 3DS off to be hard modded. The modder in question had the option to remove the hardmod after installing the CFW which would result in no port and AT THE TIME I didn't really care and decided to just keep it. Fast forward to right now and my two friends have gotten really interested in VGC and competitive pokemon and really wanted me to go to events with them. I really want to go but I feel like if my opponent sees that hard mod port I'll get a judge call and be DQed even if my mons are legitimate and legal. I thought about buying a case to cover the port but when I watch the games on stream there aren't any players have used any. I guess my question is is it allowed to play these tournaments with a protective case or is that just a big red flag that I have a modded 3DS?

One downside is I'll pretty much always have to concede to the fact that I'll never be able to use a Battery Extender but beggars can't be choosers I guess.

Any advice you can offer would be great!

Well, there're no rules against it. And you could have bought a Gateway, been bricked by them, get a hardmod to unbrick and sold your Gateway, now buying legit games.

Also, you participate with a cartridge copy of the game and play on their consoles, so it shouldn't matter.

Are you sure about this? Wouldn't that just straight out ban people with digital copies?

If I recall well, one of the rules to participate is having your own retail copy of the game.

Nope. Just checked. I was just dumb. You can participate with a digital copy.
