No he doesn't though I had too format the SD Card. All he needs is the Luma3DS files so he can boot up his SysNAND then make a EmuNAND.

I still have his old 9.2 non a9lh NAND and his OTP.bin in case its needed.

Tell him to move the arm9loaderhax.bin from Luma3DS v6.6 zip to the root of his SD card and make a folder luma on the root of his SD card as well. With A9LH, he has no need for an emuNAND.

Be sure to download the latest release of Luma3DS (6.6) and drag the "arm9loaderhax.bin" file to the root of your SD Card and you should be golden according to @Zero72463

Then find the .bin, make the luma folder, put them in a zip file, and tell him to place the files on the root of his SD card.

arm9loaderhax.bin is the only Luma file he needs. And a luma folder to save his config.bin file in once he gets to the Luma3DS settings screen.

1. Use the (A) button and the D-Pad to turn on the following:
   • “Autoboot SysNAND”
   • “Use SysNAND FIRM if booting with R (A9LH)”
   • “Show NAND or user string in System Settings”
2. If you are using a New 3DS, you should also enable the following:
   • “New 3DS CPU” to “Clock+L2(x)”
   • This will increase the framerate of many games, but may cause instability in others
   • If some games do not work properly, disable this option and try again
3. Press Start to save and reboot
   • If you get a black screen, just continue to the next section
