Gaming Has anyone gotten banned from playing Pokemon Moon online?

They are already... Retail Carts don't have version numbers, because you can't update them.
To update them, you install a seperate update-title.

Retail Moon v0 == eshop Moon v16
Retail Sun v0 == eshop Sun v32
there is no difference, they are 100% identical.

Nintendo can't detect the difference between CIA and 3DS. They can only detect and ban duplicated cartridge/console id's.

By the that happens you'll have people dropping em back to back but I'd say no until someone uploads and dumps a newer version of the game knowing they'll be an update file

That makes sense. So downloading a new cia and deleting previous files is likely not worth it.

sun has been on chaos for quite some time. I've put 7 hours into it, since I have work. But the games are fun, I'm totally buying the cart.

look for the correct titleID.
go to title in FBI, scroll down to whatever version of Pokemon game you have, and it should show the id in top screen

There's good info over at the 3dshacks subreddit. I feel there's a lot of fear mongering and misinformation mixed with confusion going around so getting info from other places seems good practice to better understand the situation.
