A perma ban wave is pointless anyway. Like everyone else said, now we're just going to HAVE to pirate. I don't see how that's a deterent.

If they perma ban you from online then i see the reasoning.

If they let you back online but block you from legally buying games thats just backwards.

Look, all I know is what the Nintendo rep on the phone told me that they are perma-bans.

Right now all the people that have gotten B&'d are people that have PLAYED Pokemon Sun or Pokemon Moon.
I never connected to any of Sun or Moon's online feature at all and I was banned.

Just because they are only banning Sun and Moon players now, doesn't mean that they won't go after those that have installed .CIAs of Etrian Odyssey VI, Ever Oasis, or any other future game or past game.

It's rather simple to detect too, they just needed to add some way for Nintendo to see every title you have installed on your system then cross-refernce the title ID with the e-shop. They may have the ban bot set up to just ban those that have Sun and Moon installed via CIA right now.

Don't want to fear monger or anything, just stating; be careful.
If you want to be able to play online again, make a different NNID if you need to or want to, and go buy another new3DS or just a 2DS and never hack that one and use that one to play games online.
Well others have said that phone representatives have confirmed that the ban is just the standard 15 days, and your logic just doesn't fit in with what we've seen so far.

It doesn't matter WHAT game it is Lol. People were banned for being online not having CIA installs. Do some research on how CIAs work and then come back. It's common knowledge they cannot be differentiated between from Nintendo's server, which is the main reason they are so popular over flashcards because they are safe to use. That hasn't changed just because of a new Pokemon Game.

I'm 99% sure you went online in your game, you can say you didn't all you want but others that 100% did not even visit Festival Plaza haven't been banned so someone isn't keeping it 100.

Did the other users have a NNID tied to their systems and also asked about the error code they get when attempting to access Miiverse?

The reason why the rep told me it's a perma-ban is because error codes:

002-0102
"This device's access to online services has been restricted by Nintendo."

022-2812
"You cannot access Nintendo Network services using this system."

Indicate a perma-system ban.

If it was just the one code, then it may just be the 15-day ban. The rep has also stated that there have been a lot of inbound calls about this issue.

@Majickhat55

I know for a fact that I never went accessed any of Sun or Moon's online features at all while playing. When you go into the festival plaza, it goes into local wireless mode.
I can't speak for everyone else.

While Nintendo can't tell the difference between a CIA and a legit downloaded game, they CAN tell that you are playing a "digital copy" of Pokemon Sun and Moon before it's out, which is impossible according to them. Also people that used the actual cartridge to play that they got from sources that broke street date have also been banned.

I don't care if you believe me or not, but this is no reason to call people that have clearly stated many times that they have never accessed Sun or Moon's online features at all, stupid.

If the banned user is willing to recreate another Nintendo ID then its fair game.

Just as fair as creating another account for an online game you got banned from.

It would still make bans completely pointless. They're supposed to be scary. The idea is to make you want to NOT be banned, rather than "eh, I can just create a new NNID anyway."
It solves nothing. Might as well just not ban. Online games are different because you lose progress. Pirates wouldn't have anything to lose if their ID was banned and they could just make a new one and continue doing what they were doing.

If you don't own the game, cia is an illegal copy so they can ban anytime they want. Not sure why people assume it is safe to play cias online anyway

Stop fear mongering making folks think CIAs aren't safe anymore when they are.

Because they can't detect a CIA install on your system remotely.. That's why. And they don't use headers so there is no "trail" online of the medium you're using. For all they can tell is you're playing XX game connected to XX server. Why is that so hard to understand?

Moral of the story folks is don't go online with a game that has not officially release or expect to be banned.
I'm pretty sure everyone here realized that a while ago...the main thing now is figuring out if it's 15 day temp ban (which means just waiting) or if there's a way to fix it if it's not.

Was talking about this before with some friends, Its quite possible that the removal of access of ganes bought on a store like the eshop could be illegal out here in australia, theres been a few instances of companies forced to change up because of it too..I mean, not sure, but its a possibility rightif its on a large scale as it is? Keep in mind im not talking about online play in games im talking about just the access of content you have purchased.

They just need to check purchase history. You have none and it is not one of those pre-install sets. Why is this so hard to understand?

Because when you play on a cia, they can't tell if you are playing a downloaded version or a cart. There's no way for them to track your cartridge purchases, so they won't ban you for it.

How are even the ban being given out?
Some users say it's on waves.

Other seems to imply it's after some time you played.

Another one mentioned it was 'retroactive' and that we will all be banned eventually.

Anyone knows how the bans are truly being given?

also people need to know post people that pirate end up buying the game. it doesnt make it right to do so, but ppl will buy
This is the exact boat I am in for Sun.

At this point, you shouldn't worry about bans because you shouldn't be going online anymore. It's too risky. Stay offline, transfer your save to a legit version (or freeshop) on release. If you get banned before then, wait 15 days. Then see what your options are.
