Hey Guys. I successfully downgraded my friends 3ds to 10.4 (just the firm) by completing the DSiware downgrade. What do I do next? Go straight into the 9.2 downgrade? Should I format first, if so? Would that mess anything up?

Follow the guide word by word.
If you're unsure, please link the exact Part # and Step.
Is it okay to format a system that has been downgraded with the DSiWare method? I want to format because it causes less errors during the 9.2 downgrade. Why comment on my thread if you were literally going to ignore the main post? Are you just doing this whole GBAtemp thing for the online "likes?" Do you even want to help people?

I am commenting because telling us what exact step you are at in the guide will help others figure out an answer for you.

I am literally at step one on the 9.2.0 downgrade. IS IT FUCKING OKAY TO FORMAT A SYSTEM THAT HAS BEEN DOWNGRADED WITH THE DSIWARE METHOD? I'm not sure how much clearer I can make that, friendo.

Edit: Nice profile pic btw.

If you're using browserhax as an entry then yeah it would be but since the guide doesn't mention anything about formatting, you shouldn't format shit fam.

From the guide

"
All variations of sysUpdater, not just sysDowngrader, have a very small chance of causing a “soft brick” once the downgrade is complete and the device reboots. This will cause the system to boot directly to the Nintendo error screen instructing users to power off the device.

The reason for this is unknown, but can be prevented by performing a system format before downgrading. It seems to happen very often on systems with ambassador status or who have DSiWare installed.

Once this error happens, it can only be fixed by using recovery mode (A + R + L + Up on the D-Pad) to update to the latest system version.

As of the time this is written, the latest version (11.2.0) has completely blocked all software downgrading, and if someone encounters this error they will be locked out of any further downgrading unless they downgrade their NFIRM."

Part of me wants to say go ahead and format, so you reduce your soft brick chance, but part of me thinks that formatting your console while NFIRM is downgraded might mess something up. I think you should just downgrade and not worry about formatting because the chance of a soft brick happening is very small, with or without formatting.

The chance of brick is small only if OP doesn't have an ambassador status on his console or any DSiWare installed. If the guide says that performing a format will minimize the chances, then it indeed is the right move.

and now with the rtx video upscaling, and sdr->hdr conversion, even more reason to go nvidia

both of which work well in potplayer

amd is a bit cheaper though

Cheaper and they are less stingy with the RAM not a big issue now but I can imagine in a yard or two things might be different

    Year not yard lol

the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding

When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling

They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more

    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling

even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
