I haven't played in a long while, and am afraid if I play, all my good stuff (eg villagers) will be lost. Is there a way to save edit the last played date in game to a recent date to make it seem like I've played recently, so villagers don't move out and such? Or some other way around it?

(No, I haven't updated yet.)

Do you remember when you played last? You could time travel back to that day. Unfortunately, there's no way to make them not leave.

It'd be logged in the seldom-used 3DS activity log, so I do know when it was last run.

So my only way would be time travelling back and to keep going forward a few days until now?

That would be your best bet. Remember to walk by and talk your outside villagers every couple or so days to see if anyone is leaving or if anyone mentions that a villager wants to leave.

Even if you go back in time, the villager will go.
You can change the villagers editing the save with this: marcrobledo.com/apps/acnl-editor/
After the update, you can import a villager with its amiibo card

If you have a backup (on your computer) of your town that has all of your villagers in it, you can inject that one... I've successfully done so several times, as I am not always able to play every day.

The way I do it is to load up my current game (doesn't matter what state the town is in, as you won't be keeping it), then immediately save and quit.

Backup that file (because you want the NAND from it) and pop your SD into your PC.

Open your OLDER backup in the save editor, then update it with the NAND from the backup you just made.

Save that new file, inject it into your 3DS, then when you open your town, everything should be as it was in that saved backup. I think it also doesn't take into account length of time passed (though I'm not sure on that yet), so Isabelle shouldn't say anything about how long it's been since you were there.

I've used this process on the Version 1 ACNL Save Editor, as well as the Version 2.0. The current one is 2.2, I think, but should hopefully still work the same.

But, if you don't have a backup... there's probably not much you can do. Time travelling will make no difference.

Are you using a O3DS?
n3DS.

I have a save backup on my 3DS, yeah. What do you mean "the nand from the backup" - extra data?

I'm not very experienced with editing and hacking, so I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough, lol. And I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding your question, so please forgive me if I'm saying things you already know.

You'll need to have two backup files. One that is older, that will have all your villagers. If it's on your 3DS right now, you might want to copy it over to your computer before making a new backup, in case it gets overwritten when you backup a new one.

The other file is brand new, made for the purpose of grabbing the NAND.

On the ACNL save editor, on the last tab, you'll see 'secure value' under the Town Info. This is your NAND. The NAND from your old file will not work if you tried injecting it. Click the pencil icon next to the secure value code, and it'll bring up a box that basically says what I have (oops).

Click on the red button, and grab the NAND from the brand new backup. It automatically changes it. Save the updated file, and you should be able to succesfully inject and open it on your console.

Ah, okay. Usually NAND refers to something else (the memory in the 3DS system that holds firmware files, etc)

Ah, yes, that's true!

Also, I've just now tried this, since it had been a few weeks since I last played, and I have to take back what I said about Isabelle not noticing the amount of time passed. She does still acknowledge it, BUT, because I had injected an older save, my town was as it was in that save, with all the villagers... I just need to fix my mayor's hair, and pull up unwanted weeds and flowers.

I thought I remembered it being otherwise, but I must have been mistaken. Anyway, I hope it works for you if you try it!

Not true. If you go exactly back in time the amount of days, you'll be fine. But you have to make sure the time doesn't put you on a different day. Like if the save was on say, 11/1 at 8:30 am, do not load 11/1 at 5:30 pm, since New Leaf treats 6:00am as the start of a "new day".

Good to know. Got 2 months to go forward, though...

Just don't be stupid like me, and update, thinking you'll be able to turn it back before the game starts. It won't let you.

Also manually count the amount of days, if by chance you were behind or ahead of time before

Like I was always a month behind, so I used a calender and counted out how many clicks it would take to get back to normal

Not updating until my save is all good...

In other news, I now regret adding the reset center.

Not sure if plot resetting works anymore, Inkwell seemed to plop down and picked a spot and I can't seem to get him off

I thought this update was gonna be a reward man

After many failed attempts of moving through time without villagers moving away, I finally caught Ankha try to move out...

Edit: I inserted my old backup using JKSV and rebooted on 11/2 (today) and... No one moved out? Isabelle says "its been forever" but no one moved out. Interesting!

Did you happen to load a mayor or any other already made character? (meaning you didn't just create a new one)

Nope, what I dI'd was make the time 5:58 am, save and quit, then load a new character after..

Wait, I'm an idiot. I went back in the morning on the same day when I needed to use tomorrow. it's been so long since I've had to do this, I've gotten rusty ://
