I am stuck...unable to get past this certain step.. I keep getting

Update Failed, system will reboot

link removed --- but from the arm9loaderhax website
Section III Step 6

Updating it will start the progress, but stops and gives me that error message above when the bar is about 70%ish

do you have tubehax enabled, custom/editited home menu? Try installing a clean home menu from that iso site as its against the rules to link here bc copyright infringement

Heya, just created an account here, hoping to be of help.
I've installed CFW on 2 of my 3DS i have here at home, and i got that exact same problem on my Japanese 3DS XL when i installed CFW (couldn't install the latest version through the system menu)
I managed to fix it by installing my 9.2 NAND that i created a backup of a couple steps earlier through hourglass9, and choosing keep a9lh, and after that i managed to update without any problems.
If you've been using the plailect guide, you should be in version 2.1.0, be done with the a9lh installation and have a backup of 9.2 too.
I'll just say that i'm kinda new to all of this, so when that happened to me i pretty much decided to experiment a bit, and yeah, it solved the problem for me xD
So, if you're unsure, you can always wait for someone with a bit more experience about CFW and stuff to jump in here to help.
Hope everything works out fine, and you get it fixed. Good luck!

Edit: If you decide to try the 9.2 backup way + keep a9lh. Remember to doublecheck your Luma3DS settings before you go on updating (section 3, part 1). Extremely important.
  • “Autoboot SysNAND”
  • “Use SysNAND FIRM if booting with R (A9LH)”
  • “Show NAND or user string in System Settings”
  • “Show GBA boot screen in patched AGB_FIRM"

Yeah, I'm still needing help with this..

I dont know how to get sysnand back to normal?

Right now I'm in the situation where it boots the 3DS whent he memory card is in but won't boot when there's no memory card in.

You should have a 9.2 backup on your card. Press start on boot to run Hourglass9, and restore the backup with keep a9lh.

Sorry, i did do that, I'm on 9.2 again. What do I have to do from there and I still can't boot the 3DS without the memory card inserted.

That means you have A9LH installed.

edit: If you're using Luma3DS, hold select when booting up and see if you get the config page. That would confirm that you're running off the arm9loaderhax.bin.

So now that I'm on 9.2 again, do I just update the system firmware from here? or do I have to go back to a certain step and redo parts

Double check by holding select when booting up and see if you get the config page for Luma3DS. You can check autoboot sysNAND and hit start to save.
After that, you should be fine updating the system firmware from the settings.

Wait? So does the A9LH that the plaitect guide comes with not have the boot without sd card function? Mine can boot without an sd card inserted with the update that came out a while ago for it. It comes in handy when I have just sysnand... Im surprised that they didn't add that one.

There is a way that was recently updated. Though most people don't recommend it because people tend to mix up the a9lh installation if they do it right off the bat.
You could convert to it after, but all your games are on the SD card anyways so you'll need the SD in regardless

Haha ok! I havent read anything since I updated my A9LH when the booting without an sd card thing came out. I probably should look into updating it again if things are more "stable"

I installed the no sd card boot up when it was released and never went about reading anything about it since. Its nice to be able to boot up your 3ds without the sd card. Like for example when everyone updated their 3ds's to 11.2 and Luma wouldnt boot. I just took my sd card out, booted up, put it back in and updated luma lmao.
