If I format the SysNand in system settings, do I unlink nands? I did that and games are on both nands, is that normal?
PS: I installed the games in a hdd

Downloaded the pre-compiled fw.img and compiled my own.
Amazingly, they matched, so I can confirm as a random person that it should be fine.

Of course, it still stands that if you don't know how to compile it, you probably shouldn't use it, but that's a separate issue.

If you format sysNAND, the NANDs will be unlinked.
As for the games, if you install them to an HDD, then yes, games will appear on both NANDs, but they will only work on the NAND you installed them on. This is because the other NAND will be missing the tickets for the game, so they will not launch.

Yeah, that is what's stopping me from wanting to attempt RedNAND, I can find an image on that site, the trouble is I can brick the Wii U, which I can't even afford a used one to take its place. I'm probably wanting to use this for the wrong reasons, notably, because I don't want to fall behind what everyone else is doing >.> I mean it's nice to have emulated NAND, don't get me wrong, just a lot of conflicting thoughts right now. I doubt there will be a simpler way to do all this.

Unless you're ok with being a guinea pig just wait and see for a while. There's no point finding out the hard way that the unlinking really did work and was the right thing to do. Better to not use the redNAND at all till it's been proven.
Thanks I will wait a while for some confirmation on the unlinking of nands, its just not worth it for me I would hate to lose all what I have done in progress and have to start all over again. Apparently DLC is working in Rednand which really interests me but I will keep using loadiine for the time being.

hey guys, i am doing the tutorial and got the keys etc, i am up to the following part of the "guide"..

  1. # generate the sections
  2. cd ../sections/
  3. python gensections.py

  4. # Compile the dumper/rednand fw.img
  5. cd ..
  6. make
when i click sections it makes two bin files, where are these going to? because when i did the fw.img downloader on the earlier part, i was able to get the fw.img just fine.... this guide is not very clear at all

also, i just tried booting into cfw booter on homebrew channel with the files all where they should be, and the fw.img on the root, it just brings me back to the wii menu screen.
still not sure also why there is 2 fw.img --- (fw.img.full.bin)

if people can help me over discord, that would be ace.

Dont go this route. Data corruption can easily happen. Just go to your local small computer shop and ask them if they have one or purchase one on amazon. If you are not a pro at soldering then this can easily be a failure. If you are thinking of just taping the wires together then the outcome can be far worse. Dont waste your time.

I'm having trouble, dumped the fw.img off the sd card and got all the way to the CFW booter, but it hangs on loading the home menu. Any ideas? Trying dumping it with the other type (MLC) now.

Either way you were sharing it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's against the rules - and it's nicer to be alerted by another member than by a mod.
sharing what... in what part of my post lists i am sharing fw.img?
