I googled but got confused a bit since all I could find were people transferring systems that would both have CFW / A9lh installed on both.

I have one system "source" that is up to recent firmware but use oothax as entry to homebrew

I have another system that is "target" system that has A9lh with Luma and - if anyone has done this before- can I transfer my "source" system to the "target" system and essentially get CFW on my "source" system?

The "source" system is the system that has A9LH installed
The "target" system is the system that doesn't have A9LH installed

Normally System Transferring won't work like that.

There is a way to use System Transfer to install A9LH from your "source" to your "target" but it requires a game to be purchased on eShop (on the source system) and have it setup to be able to downgrade and install A9LH on the "target" system after system transferring. This method is known as DSIWarehax.

Ah thanks for that, the plailect FAQ made me more confused then since it said

  • Q: What about System Transfers?
A: Once you have completed the guide, you can system transfer to and from an arm9loaderhax'd 3DS or 2DS exactly like you would a regular stock console or EmuNAND (you will lose any non-legitimate games/themes/DLC in the transfer; saves will stay even for games that are lost).

  • That threw me off. I'll just keep each system as is

It's just basically saying that after doing the guide, it's okay to System Transfer and that you can do it normally from the System Settings but you'll lose some stuff.

I don't have anything on their as of yet so I wouldn't have minded losing anything. It just made me think I could transfer my main system to it and be able to keep A9lh as well, haha

You won't lose A9LH doing system transfers. If I'm understanding you correctly, you have your games and saves on your first system, but you'd like A9LH on it as well, and you have a second system with the A9LH that you'd like on your first system. There's nothing stopping you from doing this. Here's how:

1. Transfer from your first system to your second system. After this step, your first system will be reformatted while your games and saves will be on your second system... With A9LH. You may need to reinstall FBI, but A9LH will still be there to let you run Luma, decrypt9, and hourglass9, so that won't be a problem.

2. Purchase a game compatible with DSiware hax (if you haven't already) on your second system.

3. Use the guide linked above to prepare your DSiware game for use with DSiwarehax.

4. After a week passes (Nintendo only lets you perform a system transfer once a week) transfer back from your second system to your first system. Although this resets your second system, A9LH will have still survived, allowing you to reinstall FBI again if you want or even restore from a NAND backup if you made one earlier. But the point is that your games and saves will be back on your first system, now including your DSiware game with the DSiwarehax payload.

5. Perform DSiwarehax on your first system and follow the A9LH guide to install A9LH.

Just a few things to keep in mind.
1. You can't transfer from a N3DS to an O3DS. If either system is a N3DS, they will both need to be or else you won't get anywhere.

2. Anything that you install as a .cia or anything from apps such as Freeshop are lost during a transfer, which is why your DSiware game needs to be purchased from the eshop. After you're done, you can reinstall anything that didn't transfer.

I'll add more if I think of more. Just writing this of the top of my head. [emoji12]

So essentially I will have A9lh on my main system by doing this, but will need to do the whole DSiwarehax to install fbi again? Or is that to get A9lh on both systems? I'm not too interested in FBI Moreso than I am wanting to use NTR plugins and streaming stuff and having a quick homebrew access point from the main menu

The DSiwarehax is to get A9LH on both systems. To get NTR streaming and the Homebrew Launcher on the Home Menu, you'll need to install the BootNTR CIA and the Homebrew Launcher CIAZ with FBI (almost no one will recommend using BigBlueMenu or other CIA installers). FBI is pretty much an essential application on every A9LH'd console, imo.

So I would need the DSIwarehax regardless? I just need / want it on my main system as the others usually go unused or shared with houseguests tbh. I'll have to look into it but I'll probably just wait for a bit before I follow another guide due to time constraints coming up and not wanting to rush this and mess up. Thank you for the help :)

Please don't follow any other guides. Plailect's guide is linked for a reason, it's literally the best guide. And yes, to get A9LH on both systems, you need to do the DSiware downgrade method. Or get a hard mod on the nom-hacked system.

I've never done this myself so make sure you follow the linked guides closely, but I've heard of it working. You only need DSiwarehax to install A9LH on your first system, as the whole point is to get both the DSiwarehax payload and your own saves and games on the same system. Once you've transferred back from system 2 to system 1, you can do whatever you want to system 2. Give it away, sell it, or use it to install A9LH on other systems. A9LH will remain on system 2, but if you decide to sell it or something, you'd probably want FBI and stuff back on there to make it all user-friendly. Since A9LH is still on system 2, you can use it to launch decrypt9 or hourglass9 to easily inject FBI into the H&S app, just like you do in the guide, and install whatever you want. No need to actually perform DSiwarehax on system 2.

Edit: Yes, PLEASE follow the linked guides over anything I write here. I was only trying to provide a rough outline on how the thing you want to do is possible.

That's not what I meant lol. I just mean when I set up A9lh via plailects guide it took me over 6 hours from distractions to other things I needed to handle irl. I wouldn't use any other guide :P I'm just saying I don't have the time to sit for that long again anytime soon.
