They didn't show Amiibo support and yet it will have it...

Really we'll just have to wait until Nintendo says more or someone leaks information...
Assuming it'll have anything that isn't shown is just not a good move. It definitely won't have a touchscreen though. Because it's either game on the TV or on the tablet. Not both at same time. And since a TV doesn't have a touchscreen, touchscreen is out of the question.

I'm not assuming anything as far as Amiibo is concerned...

Nintendo has confirmed to IGN that it will support Amiibo...

And maybe it will be backwards compatible with the DS family of games but only in tablet mode...

Like you said, we can't assume it will or won't have a specific feature...

Well, they hinted at amiibo support with amiibos in the background. (edit: ninja info about amiibo)

And the touchscreen would be odd, as what would you do when you docked the game? You wouldn't be able to dock the handheld section if the game required or used touchscreen. That would seem to be counter to what they're going for.

I'm saying this, but I'd love a touch screen and motion control, so hopefully I'm wrong.

From what Nintendo has said the system base is nothing more than a video connector so there's no wireless streaming like the Wii U...

The Switch could potentially be backwards compatible with the DS family of games if it has a at least a 480p touch screen... (the 3DS is 240p for each screen)

They could then allow DS compatibility but only in tablet mode... (tablet exclusive games with touch weren't explicitly excluded... but they didn't say there would be any either...)

Not sure how the dock means no touchscreen. It could just be touchscreens features that only activate in portable mode.
No. The entire philosophy of the entire bloody thing is that you can play at home and on the move in the same way. Making it so touchscreen only works when it's portable makes no sense. If they wanted that they'd just have made it as a handheld and make the TV bit an optional addon.

3DS backwards compatibility wouldn't work. No dual screen, no touchscreen, no 3DS, no motion controls, no cameras.
high enough res to display both screens, top is 400x240 bottom is 320x 240
unconfirmed touch
2DS plays 3DS games to 3D not needed
camera and motion controls not needed for most games

Taking on the go, doesn't mean it can't be different. It already different from going from the dock to just handheld mode.

The performance will be different from simple being on a power supply, then more so if they decide to add some power to the dock.
That shouldn't impact gameplay though (or not much), as the tablet requires less resolution. Plus even that is speculation at this point. But adding a touchscreen to portable only would be a much bigger change. It'd make any game made for that not work in console mode, which would make no sense for a product designed to be both console and handheld.

If performance doesn't increase when on a power supply, they better off just using a dongle. Just make sure all games can be playable with or without touch.

It's about time people started keeping older hardware/handhelds instead of hoping/expecting backwards compatibility.

It's OK man... Let it go.
Wii was backwards compatible, Wii U was backwards compatible (even with the GameCube if you count homebrew).
We knew Nintendo wouldn't stick with the PowerPC architecture for another generation, it's already been 15 years.
They've been really good with us regarding backwards compatibility.
This time though, it needed to change, for the sake of third-parties.
