Three years ago at a keynote event at D.I.C.E. 2013, movie director J.J. Abrams had revealed that he was working with Valve in order to produce movie adaptations of Portal and Half-Life. However, after that initial announcement, no word has been spoken about either project since then. That was, until today, where Abrams had an interview with IGN, in which he stated the following:

"We have a meeting coming up next week with Valve, we’re very active, I’m hoping that there will be a Portal announcement fairly soon" [...] "We are having some really interesting discussions with writers, many of whom...once you said you’re doing a movie or show about a specific thing that is a known quantity you start to find people who are rabid about these things. As someone who loves playing Half Life and Portal, what’s the movie of this, it’s incredible when you talk to someone who just ‘gets’ it, it’s like, oh my god, it’s really the seed for this incredible tree you’re growing."

Fuck the movie, where's the next installment of Half Life?

You never know - when "Halflife - the movie" comes out we may finally get the "Game based on the movie".. & Steam will release a special box set of all Halflife Plus the missing 3rd part with the tag line:- "You know how it ended but now see how it all started"

As for the Portal movie I'm not sure how'd they'll introduce the puzzle elements into that movie.. My guess it would be a 'prequel' to Portal...

IMHO Basic storyline would be about a fully occupied Aperture Science complex, the creation of the portal gun & GLaDos activation who then starts to takes over the complex.
A bunch of survivors try to escape from her clutches using the newer developed portal gun to avoid the lethal traps she lays

The twist being that not all escape - one gets trapped .... & we know who that person is - Chell

from the posts on this thread, I guess I am one of the few who actually enjoy Abram's work.

hopefully, the Portal and Half-Life movies are based on Portal 2 and Half-Life 2 and are equal to or better than Warcraft (which I enjoyed also)

I wish the Warcraft movie would have been based on Warcraft III or World of Warcraft so it would be more inline with what people know about Warcraft from World of Warcraft and Warcraft III. casual WoW players and even Warcraft III players will not have much movie events that they can relate to from back when they played the game.

this will happen but for the story if Half-Life or Portal is used instead as both had shorter not as in depth stories than their successors, especially Portal.

This would be much better if done like the mini-series they did for SOMA. A movie for this franchise just doesn't make sense to me.
