The luma folder and arm9loaderhax.bin. However you can update to a no-SD-needed version of a9lh which installs a mini CFW in the NAND, so you can still boot in the case of losing your SD card.

When loading homebrew, 3ds flashed several colours saw some font flash quickly now the 3ds has a black screen and bottom screen is red. what does it all mean?

I'm such a dummy. I copied starter folder, didn't copy contents. Now homebrew launcher is installed. Hip, hip hooray!

So, do I really need to follow the rest of the different parts to 5? I'm guessing yes, because if I didn't then they wouldn't be listed. I'm guessing I'm still a dummy for asking

Someone is offering to sell me an N3DS XL, he says it has 9.0 Ver. Firmware and he'll give me his gateway 3ds flashcart as well.

1) Are there forced updates on N3DS when connected to WiFi?
2) Would I still be able to use the eShop?
3) What exactly does this flashcart allow me to do? Play 3DS games? What about DS games? Can it play all games including recent releases?

1) Updates are not forces, but you will get nagged to update.
2) You will have to setup cfw and emunand (it is highly recommended to not rely on gateway, it is nice for cheats and using .3ds roms, but not much else since cfw has made it obsolete for the most part)
3) Play pretty much all 3ds games, good cheats, and that is about it. You are better off setting up luma3ds and using cias (installable games and other applications). https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/ follow this guide for help on setting up cfw. Don't worry about the 9.2 thing as 9.0 works in its place. I recommend that you do the a9lh setup, but you can choose to stop at menuhax (read the steps for setting up a9lh before you attempt to do them, ask questions here, and don't just do it if you are not 100% onboard with it. The steps are safe enough, but it is still risky).

Thanks for the reply. Another question, if I play a rom with online features, such as Pokemon X, will I still be able to use online features?

You will need to use private headers or you will be temp (?) banned from online play. The bans range between a day and indefinitely afaik. With cias, you will not have to worry about this.

He can use the decrypt9 to dump header from the game card right.... if he has one.

Finally I "upgraded" my 2ds to A9lh!
I am so happy i did it!
Just 2 questions..
1.Version at settings now shows "Sys 11.0.0-33E".this is what is supposed to say right?
2.I injected back the H&S but the icon of FBI remained.is that a problem? (I have installed the FBI.cia file before injecting the hs.app back)

1) yes
2) make sure that it is the hs app and not fbi, if it is hs, reboot, if not then you may have to uninstall it, and reinstall the cia through 3dnus or run a system update (not too sure if the latter would work)

if he has FBi on the system twice, then injecting the regular H&S.app with decrpt9 should just make it normal again,

I checked what you said and the FBI that was installed from cia is FBI and the injected FBI became "Health and Safety Information".

EDIT:following Plailect's Guide I injected it with Hourglass9(part 5,section VI last 4 steps)
The reboot still has it as FBI at the bottom screen but it works as H&S.
I may try to inject it again with decrypt9 this time

Try installing the health and safety app downloaded from 3dnus, It should solve the incorrect icon issue, if it doesn't, then you will have to uninstall the old hs, reboot, and reinstall the hs cia

System icons have a tendency to not change (personal experience).

I didn't know that, Usually the with banner and without banner injection gets confusing. I used the without banner to tell them apart. Also i never bothered reverting h&S back to normal. Because is always on the system, so if i somehow accidentally uninstall the SD one the NAND one is always there for backup install

To be honest it won't matter since you can run fbi from homebrew to re insatll fbi cia.

I will leave it as it is for now,a hybrid fbi-icon--H&S-app because at least it works, it is health and safety again
I didn't want to inject it either because it is useless but I wanted to finish the guide step-by-step

Does anyone have the hs.cia file to inject it again?
3dnus comes up as trojan in my windows 10 system (facepalm)

If you are paying extra then don't. The Gateway cart isn't hugely useful and any system version up to 10.7 can be downgraded. (You only have to avoid 11.0, you don't need to have 9.0-9.2)
