So... I recently installed alll the necessary CIOS's in order to run Wii games from my USB drive on Wii U. Well the thing is, I have a 2TB drive that I could technically use. The thing is, it's already being used for Wii U titles and since that has its own proprietary format system, I would be able to use it with both that and USB Loader GX.

Well, I was reading up on what I could potentially do and it said it supported multiple partitions in devices. With that, I came up with an idea and was asking if anyone attempted this before to see if it would actually work.

I was think that I would back-up all my data from my Wii U, format my HDD, put two separate partitions on there with one being Fat32 and the other one going to be formatted by my Wii U. Put all my data back on the Wii U partition and rip my Wii games to the Fat32 partition.

Would this theoretically work at all?

Theoretically yes. But irl no. Wii U has very stupid detection of USB HDD's, and it will not see certain partitions. If the whole drive is not Wii U format, it will prompt to format the entire thing and not read anything on the drive, regardless of partitioning system or size of partition.

USB Loader GX has a much more sophisticated detection of USB HDD's, and can read multiple partitions. That is why you heard that multiple partitions are supported.

TL;DR: USB Loader GX supports multiple partitions, Wii U does not.

Gotcha. So it'll just end up getting rid of both partitions either way. Thanks for letting me know.

As an aside, does USB Loader GX support loading from the SD Card slot at all?

No. Gamecube games will load of SD. Some users have gotten around this, though I don't remember how and don't know if it is vWii compatible. I honestly don't recommend it, but if you have to have SD Card Wii support, you may check out Cfg USB Loader or Wiiflow.

Ah, gotcha. That's sad that the Wii U can't detect multiple partitions. It would be nice if the Wii U could've been developed with that in mind, but the HDD implementation is shotty at best. So it's fine I guess.

Well, luckily I have a SD Card to USB Adapter. So all I'd need is a Y-Cable for that and I should be up in running :). Thanks for responding!
