The power light goes on for a milisecond and then turns off when there is no sd inside.
Oh, okay. Then make sure there is a file called Arm9loaderhax.bin on the root of your sd card. After you can confirm it boot. use emunand9 to make a NAND BAckup as instructed by the guide.

the bin is in place.

hold select on startup and check luma settings

i did earlier on, and selected the options the guide provided. still not luck

i also had to remove the config to get that working

I have a question about soft modding. My brother gave me his old 3ds(US) with 8.0fw and was thinking of updating it to 9.2 and installing cfw. I myself have a n3ds(EU) with latest ofw and was wondering if it is possible to use soft mod to set the n3ds back to an older fw.
No,
the bin is in place.

Are you sure is the correct one?

Does it load; now though. It would at least confirm luma3ds is trying to load.

No,

The one from here correct? That the one you used when you used the safea9lhinstaller?

Insert the sd card into the pc and delete the config.bin inside the luma folder and try again.

i will redownload it and try again.

And you've done section iv #4 and section v #9

and i also will refollow the steps starting from where you mentioned. Thanks both! :)

The guide says it's normal until you get further in part 5 you wont be able to get to your home menu. Nothings wrong there you just follow exactly what it says. The people helping you are good but they're encouraging that something is wrong but there isn't. I just did this last night.

There's only a problem if you can't do what the guide says (i.e. hold select to get to luma on start) if you can't do that there's a problem.

He said he is on finalizing setup, that means he must have already be able to boot system menu, and just need to create NAND back up and use fbi to install cia files.

Sorry I missed that, but he should have already been able to boot back to home menu if he's that far before that.

That is where he having the problem. There maybe something wrong with the a9lh file or the sysnand.

Just Curious, what does the luma settings say? If you have autoboot sysnand disabled, please turn it on.

Section III - Configuring Luma3DS
  1. Hold select on boot to enter the Luma3DS menu.
  2. Use the A button and the D-Pad to turn on the following:
    • "Autoboot SysNAND"
    • "SysNAND is updated"
    • "Force A9LH detection"
    • "Show current NAND in System Settings"
    • "Show GBA boot screen in patched AGB_FIRM"
  3. If you are using a New 3DS, you should also enable the following:
    • Toggle "New 3DS CPU" to "Clock+L2(x)" for improved game performance
  4. Press Start to save and reboot
Are these what is enabled?

Did you remember to Use hourglass9 to restore EMUNAND_ORIGINAL.BIN TO SYSNAND?

OK so I followed all 5 parts of this guide https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki as a total 3DS hacking noob

Now the 3DSXL I used was one that I had previously lost. While it was lost I called Nintendo and got them to transfer all my digital purchases to another system. When I recovered it I figured I could keep those games on it as long as I didn't connect to the eshop or do a system update. The console was on version 9.0.0.2 U when I did the guide. When I go to NNID settings it simply tells me I can use this ID on this system (because its on my other one).....can I keep my digital games and saves and set this system up with a new NNID?

So I now have this console updated with arm9loaderhax which it seems to me is a fancy way to always boot luma CFW...am I right?

So now that I am on the CFW do I need to avoid the eshop and system updates still? What about playing online? I have my physical smash bros. that needs an update from the eshop in order to play. I would like to be able to play it and install it to the SD card.

I see these instructions
https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/4qgap3/

for dumping the game but I am hoping to get an answer before proceeding.....

It should be possible to update games without firmware updates as long as the game can be played. But if the system ask for update, then you need a update.

If you wanna convert the game card to a cia to install on system, You need to use a 3ds to cia converter program. Follow the directions to dump the xorpads with the generated NCCHINFO.BIN File and Decrypt9 program. :)
