No, it's just some morality bs. There's a difference between fiddling with the ROM files and using tools to edit mons.

so like still if u edit the cro files or add mons it wont hurt other games or pokemon games. And yes my friend is paranoid of this because he doesnt want a brick xD.

Bricks only happen if you're trying to downgrade(and I think theres a chance you can brick when you setup gateway but not sure). Otherwise, you can't brick your 3ds installing homebrew

Well you have to dump your game with braindump in homebrew ( make sure you exploited your 3ds for homebrew ) then you have to decrypt your dumped rom file ( extracted romfs etc ) and at least you have to drag the folder with the models in ohana3ds also you have to extract the models where the brendan model is in.
