Give me a sec. I'm gonna try something here. I didn't extract the otherapp folder that was in your file before I stuck the entire installer file in the 3DS folder. Maybe that will do something. I'm making sure to format the card before hand though. I'll let you know how it goes.

STILL nothing. It's as if this system is out right refusing to launch HBL on it. It freezes on the screen, no boot menu before crashing.

Could be the Boot.3dsx file needs to be replace, maybe is corrupted. Also check to seee if your 3ds recognized the sd card before trying, sometimes it doesen't least when i use micro sd with adaptor.

Well what makes the most sense is that the boot file needing to be replaced. So should I just replace the current boot.3dsx file with another one? I'm pretty sure everything else should be good right? Where can I grab just that file?

When I replace the boot file should I try to format the cart and then reinstall the payload?

I don't know if after replacing the boot file with a fresh one I was suppose to format the cart and install the payload again, but I tried to boot it without reinstalling the payload and no luck. Still the same effect. Granted I'm writing the payload on my NEW 3DS XL to be formated to suit my Old 3DS XL which both of them are on 11.0.0.33. When I install the payload I set it for Old 3DS 11.0.0 USA as the screen lists it. I'm not sure what's wrong here.

If I recall it looks like Links Wooden Kokiri shield you get at the very beginning of the game.
I just tested it and it works, did you follow the instructions?
FORMAT GAME CARD.
Extract contents of Starter.zip to root of sd card.
USE OOTHAXINSTALLER (From archive) and install the oothax with save.

Load game and press A Button to load homebre.

OH. Press... A? Let me try that.

Well geez I feel stupid. The solution really WAS that simple. I must have glossed over the fact that I had to hit a to boot it. Based on past experiences I was under the impression that it didn't matter what I hit.

Question if I were to send EXACTLY what's on my SD card through file transfer to my friend as well as hand over this cart of OOT3D.... provided he's on 11.0.0.33, will he get the same affect I'm getting now looking at the homebrew menu?

Yes it shoudl work, as long as he has the boot.3dsx on the sd card with homebrew to load. :)
