Pokemon Go: Bringing Us All Together

Pokémon-GO-05.jpg

We all know what we did this weekend right?

Anyone with a smart phone spent their weekend crawling all over their respective neighborhoods, trespassing on private property and hastily snapping a shot of the koffing they caught while dropping something even worse smelling on the toilet.

When the concept of Pokemon Go came about, most of the world gleefully anticipated its release with excitement, while others pandered to their peers about all the ways the mobile game would flop for being another typical mobile game. We all expected something kinda good, or something miserable. But little did we know what kind of impact the game would have on our lives. Not even just your average lives, but your social life.

I spent my weekend running all over the Charlotte, North Carolina area with a group of friends. I encountered some rare little critters, got a hell of a lot of exercise, really wished I had applied that extra body spray, and tripped over my shoelace because holy shit there was a lapras nearby.

The game brought me enjoyment in its play, but there was more to it than the simplistic augmented reality creatures popping about every few minutes. The social atmosphere of seeing hundreds of people just like me running around with phones in their hands, smiles on their faces, excited eyes and shining enthusiasm was like nothing I had seen before.

i've always known gaming could bring people together in an online environment, or on the couch for co-op play. But I could never have imagined being able to walk up to perfect strangers of all types of race, clique', gender, age and interest and be doing the same thing all at once. I got phone numbers, facebook friends, group chats and the like from people i had never met before, because we were all racing around like children on a playground again.

Seeing people come together that would otherwise never say a word to each other, be too afraid of social interaction or unwilling to take that first step of saying hello to someone, can all unite under one super nerdy collectathon extravaganza with enthusiasm and happiness...

It's enough to make you smile through the weekend.

I'd love to here you all share your stories of Pokemon Go hunting this weekend. Did you meet new people? Did you find something freaking awesome in some dudes backyard? Did you get your 7th trespassing ticket? Share your story please, and stay safe out there.

And enjoy.

This game is amazing!! Just a quick scroll to a local park or a short trip to a beach, and there will be dozens of players. It's like everyone's inside joke when you stare up and notice a fellow player. "You playin Go?" "Yeah I just dropped a Lure also there's a Tauros down there" "Oh damn thanks"

With just how popular it is, and how people are going crazy over the game, I wonder how long the excitement will last before people move onto the next fad. Miitomo was a huge hit for about a week, until users sharply dropped like a rock. But then again, Pokemon is just one of those things that nearly everyone loves, so I suppose it could have lasting power. I don't really see the appeal, personally. It's fun for a little while, but how many times can you run around looking for an Eevee before you're bored?
It'll last until the next shiny pokemon product arrives. It's obvious that this is popular exclusively because it has "pokemon" written on it: the same company that developed GO has previously made what was based off this game, largely the same concept, except it's much more robust yet nobody gave a shit about it.

Pokemon Go is not officially out here yet, however from looking at Facebook everyone’s downloaded it via alternate means anyway.

I managed to catch 4 Pokemon on my way to work this morning which is the first i've played of it. It's an interesting idea for a game, i like how local places of interest are Pokemon Centers in the game, nothing near where I live however!

My entire workplace is playing this game, there are like 10 people not playing this game where I work. Not to mention phone sales have hit the roof just for this game. I went out and bought a new phone, just for this game.
This really brings me back to the good old Pokemon days.

I wish my kindle had a camera, i'd be sleepwalking around to find poliwag.
You don't need a camera to play. I don't use the camera feature because it makes my phone slow down.

The game is okay. I am going to catch tons when I go to my local library soon. I am only level 3 right now.

So, is anyone able to log in with a pokemon trainer club account? I've been trying over and over today but nothing happens.

Not for me, i want to start playing but i don't have the option to use my pokemon trainer club account. :(
I just want to have everything pokemon related (official stuff. not fansites/forums) in one account, that's why i don't want to use my google account.

We had a group chat for Smite but now everyone is outside playing Pokemon Go. I had picked team blue at first but all my friends were starting team yellow so I started again. It's really fun. I'm constantly out walking around with my boyfriend. Yesterday I was looking for a Ponyta and my boyfriend was like: "oh yeah I caught him just there" but we had already moved too far away for me to catch it haha.

I think the real take-away from the whole Pokemon Go experience is that, while aging Pokemon fans have been getting looked down on by much of society for liking something that's so childish, it turns out those filthy liars were still closet Pokemon fans all along. I can't wait until they decide to stick with it and pick up a 3DS for Pokemon Sun/Moon when those come out. Mostly because they'll never see my Imposter Ditto coming when I WRECK THEIR AMATUER FACES OFF AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. That is all.

So I was considering getting a smarter phone to be able to play this game, but then I read that Pokeballs cost real money?! This could be completely EVIL... a hugely addictive game that makes people pay and pay and pay?

What does it cost to play this game?
