You can download from eshop without updating.
- You need to block updates with tubehax DNS, or proxy. (the other DNS floating around seems to block eshop access, so be sure you are using Tubehax DNS)
- not sure this step is needed : You need to spoof the system version (install only the latest "version" file so the console think you updated, while you still have old system files)
- You need NNU Patcher to connect to eshop, it bypass the check for needed update. (there is a Homebrew launcher version of this homebrew)

So not sure if this is already known or not but I just made a discovery.

All the Info on SSBU mode seems to imply it REQUIRES the disc version but I got fed up of playing MK8 without updates so I decided to test out SSBU Mode with the Eshop version and it worked perfectly, booted MK8 with updates installed direct from the Smash of my Wii U. The only slight caveat is that SSBU has to be updated to the latest version otherwise it nags you to update everytime you launch a game.

Hope this info is useful to some people.

Sorry, it's my fault as I forgot to write on the first post it's working on eshop version too.
it has been told here, but new users don't know about it. I'll fix that. thank you.

note that the eShop version will have issues with some games, like Wii Sports Club.

I had that problem too, never found a fix so I ended up getting Easeus Partition Manager instead. Its free and it formatted my Kingston 64GB cards perfectly.
i have Easeus Partition Manager too, but still lags do i really need a class 10 card? i changed to 64kb and no change at all. lagging load times for super mario 3d and captain toad.

Can I use a US game update in a EU game?? Are game updates region free? I cant find the answer to that anywhere
it depends on the games.

Some games have identical files for all regions, some have identical files for US/EU but not JP, etc.
if the files are identical, you can use an update for another region.

Sometime, games from other region require specific filename or folder renaming, you need to enable the Loadiine server to see which files are accessed and correct the filename in case it's not accessing the correct ones.
for example, EU console should try to access files located in "eu-en" folder, while an american console will try to access it in "us-en" folder.

so, it's up to you to examine and interpret what you see to know what you have to do.
Just try, keep original files to try again.

Delete Loadiine from your SD card and reinstall it. This error is generally because the file/folder structure is messed up.

So, according to the compatibility list, New Super Luigi U works in Miimake mode. However, when I try it nothing happens, it just stays on the Loadiine screen. Any ideas ?

I'm using the latest nightly, and I'm not seeing the "DLC Option" in the game settings for loadiine. I own the dlc for TMS#FE as well. Am i doing something wrong? Or at least can I get a reference on how the DLC settings for loadiine looks like

Stickied? ?
Yes good idea @Cyan can we now sticky all WiiU Homebrew related tools so its easier to look for when new updates roll out for example Homebrew Launcher, Wupinstaller (HBL), Ftpii, DDD, basically anything related to the WiiU Homebrew set up. It would make life alot easier on roll outs, ta bud, hope your ok apart from that bit, you horny little womanizer! ;)

Should I sticky all 43 homebrew threads?
We already have too many stickies, I would remove nintendont and move the guides to FAQ if it was only me :P

There's a wiki with links to all homebrew threads for easy access (like a shortcut).
http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/List_of_WiiU_homebrew

While I'm posting here :
I updated the install and launching section of the first post, it was too confusing and still used the old loadiine 4.0 method.
I added sources downloading tutorial on the second post.

Maybe you should make an all in one thread name it "WiiU Homebrew - This is the only page you will ever need"and put all of it inside like a package instead of all separate pages. Combine everything github releases etc.. all together. Also when someone releases something else they put it on that page not another one.

@Cyan "Emuliine" whats that? sounds interesting.

that's what I tried to do with 3DS section, but I stopped updating it because I didn't have time to follow all project, threads and update it.
If someone wants to do it, why not.
But what you ask (a list of all homebrew with links to all threads and github) ....already exists, so creating a thread with the exact same data is redundant and useless work.
Tadaaaa :
http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/List_of_WiiU_homebrew
http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/List_of_WiiU_PC_utilities
Once again, I'm the only one maintaining it.
I also thought I'll add the wiiu infobox template today and start adding individual homebrew page, but I'm lazy and it's too hot to work :P

also, like a lot of users asked, making a homebrew section separated from the hacking section could be useful.

I might have a crack at it. I will let you know.

This might just be something on my end but whenever I try to run anything homebrew related my Wii U gives me the white screen with the Wii U logo in the bottom right while playing the loading music then it gives a 5 second long beep-like noise then it stoos and have to force power it off. I can run the Illuminati Exploit just fine but everything else wont boot at all. I'm using a 32GB Sony Micro SD with Adapter and even when redownloading the Homebrew launcher nothing changes. Is there a reason for this? A different adapter does nothing and I run my stuff fron loadiine.ovh

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.
