I have an old 3DS which was on 4.X.

I was following this guide
https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/9.2.0-Update-(rxTools-MSET)

And during the final step, the installation of the update the 3DS went black screen and I've listened a small click.
I've waited more or less 5 minutes and since nothing was happening.

Switched it off holding the power button.
Now, when I try to power it up, all I get is a blue light and black screen.

Is this a brick? Was the update still installing during the black screen period?

Nothing. Same black screen.
The only thing that lights up is the power blue light.

Try booting recovery mode, if not, then it's bricked. I'm not even sure if recovery mode is on that firmware. If it's solid then yeah, it's bricked.

I honestly fucked up nothing.
Rxtools installed just fine, booted into Pasta Mode.
Opened FBI, installed sysupdater.

It started updating, it was running just fine, it was checking tons of stuff and reporting "installed" in green.
After a few minutes screen got black and a click occurred.

Well, I have sysnand and emunand backup here.

And as far as I can see from the tutorial, all I need to do is solder 6 wires to a microsd card adapter.
That seems pretty easy.

This tutorial is for nand duping.

Does it change anything for nand flashing?

This is where you fucked up. Never do it in patched sysnand! If you followed the guide, it says to do it in emunand/rednand.

  1. Go to the right until you get to "Advanced Options"
  2. Select either "Devmode" or "Pasta Mode"
  3. Your 3DS will reboot back into the home menu
  4. Launch the Health and Safety Application (which is now FBI)
  5. Navigate to sysUpdater.cia and press A to install
  6. Press the home button to go to the home menu, then open the sysUpdater application and press the A button to install

This is the final part of the tutorial, paste and copy, no edits.
It says shit about going into emunand.

When you boot into Pasta Mode, it's the only way FBI to show up because of patched system flags.

Also I think I figured out what I did wrong, I've used this 9.2.0-20U(Full)_n3DS for 9.2.
I guess n is for new, right?

Meh, the good part is that I don't even need a altera programmer or anything like that.

if you can boot recovery mode you should be able to update to 11.0. Still, using the n3ds firm on an old 3ds.. you gotta be careful man. From what I've heard that should actually lead to an unrecoverable brick.

Yeah, 9.2.0-20U(Full)_n3DS for 9.2. stands for NEW3ds 9.2 firmware, always make sure to triple check all the files you've downloaded...
It's a shame there's nothing like safesysupdater/plaisysupdater for UPDATING the system (with extra checks) rather than downgrading. then again, IIRC the safe checks part doesn't even function o3ds
