Sakitoshi does what nintendon't.

No, seriously. Thanks for trying to uncensor this game.
I wasn't planning on buying this game, but if there was a patch for uncensoring it, then i might consider buying it. It's still sad that we, the gamers who doesnt like silly censorship, have to rely on modders.
(Why Nintendo? Why do you hate the female anatomy, do you aim to be PC and child friendly?)

If I am not mistaken, isn't the censorship increasing the age of certain female characters? Like a girl who is 14 in the Japanese version is now 18 or something in the American version. That could be something else I am thinking of though, and in that case I don't see the issue really? Cause the age of consent is much lower in Japan I believe, so its just a cultural thing they are looking out for.

Then again, I am at work and didn't google any further information, so I may be talking out my ass.

For any instance of the game where Tsubasa says in Japanese that she's 17, they re-recorded it so that she says she's 18 in Japanese. Don't have a video link (at work atm) but if you google around you should be able to find it.

Also since they censored a ton of things in chapter 2, they have to replace voices that reference things like bikinis, swimsuits and gravure; otherwise you'll be able to hear them talking about something totally different while the subs say something else.
Audio could be changed and as subster said the audio is in japanese so isn't much of a problem for most people.

Lets say this is possible... What homebrew will we need to use for changing what's censored ?
Just loadiine to load your properly dumped and patched game.

Yes, ages were elevated. That isn't a problem (as far as the english version can be edited with the same tools as the jap version which is almost warranted) to change as I currently can change every bit of text in the game, at first I'll only change the profiles to match the original ages as I don't know if there is any other instance of them.

Holy hell, why would they do something like that, it makes so little sense...

Will there be a (SD)Caffiine version as well?
That way I can use it with a legit copy. Thanks!

Yeah, making a caffiine patch wouldn't be to hard, heck you could do it yourself day 1 (assuming everything falls into place), but since I'm assuming you can't distribute actual game files you'd need a Loadiine formated Japanese version of the game.

EDIT:
This actually won't be possible as the files are to large for Cafiine to send, and SD Cafiine only works with Smash Bros. Even then apprently CPK files (The data files the game uses) actually have issues with being loaded. For now, I guess it's Loadiine replacing files only.

@Sakitoshi
I'm super interested in helping out, if you need any extra help with anything, give me a PM or something.

So, as of right now I've also managed to get the latest version of the CRIWare SDK tools as well.

There's no way to convert USM to any other format 100% (vgmtoolbox tries, but produces corrupt video), same for ADX, etc.

My solution is a tad janky for this, I've basically loselessly screen captured the video from the included USM player. The results are perfectly acceptable, even when reencoding the files back into USM.

EDIT:
After a few hours of playing around, I've actually managed to decompile code for the game's scripts, meaning I can now directly edit the way events work, when sounds play, what sounds play, what messages get loaded, etc.

I'm probably going to look into this more for text editing purposes. Trying to find control codes, etc.

EDIT 2:
The function is embeded in the Lua enivironment in the main executable, so I won't be able to get anything.

However I managed to find (most) of the control flags used in the game, even a debug switch.

My next step is to try seeing if I can recompile the code and get it to work again, fingers crossed here.

For me the ages or swpping bikinis for street weat aren't a big issue, but ugly as sin texture swaps as this really bother me:

It's like they're not even trying. I wonder if there could be a way to incorporate the removed DLC into the localized version of the game as well. Thanks OP for starting this.

So should I or should I not buy this? Or just wait until someone dumps it and uploads it with the jap files for the characters.

It looks like they clone tool the rest of the dress honestly and then painted her skin texture white, not the greatest looking thing I must agree.

The Bikini isn't actually censored later on in one of the music video cutscenes, or so I've seen online, I find it kind of strange really how the censoring has gone about.
They obviously could change certain cutscenes, given the lack of pelvis bones in some of the cutscenes we've seen. All very odd to me.

On a side note to the lua script decompiling:
Recompiling some of the scripts as they are is impossible without editing them first, as the unluac decompiler, which is currently the only decompiler for lua bytecode working for Lua 5.2, generates some invalid lua, mainly from what I've seen invalid if statements.
I'll probably just replace one script and see where that gets me.
If this works, I guess it means we can do custom script injecting, that is to say, make might be able to make our own MSBT files for the game.

Quick observations:

Some lines re-voiced (as was known)
- Lines where they say their ages
- Itsuki talking about some lewd magazine
- Idol life is hard.
- Onsen DLC lines removed
- Some other voice lines about post-game dungeons removed? DLC? No clue.
Original voice lines of character ages and stuff are still on disc, just renamed and made unavailable in game. Weird.
Small glitch with menu confirm/deny sounds being swapped. Fixable.

I count 340 line changes. More than doable to restore. However, the sound cpk is 1.6GB, so... No clue how to go around giving a patch for that or whatever. Maybe others here have some insight.

Will update with more findings.

So you managed to get the game early or something? If so, nice.

Anyways, I'd try just placing the English files over the Japanese version and see if it works or not, probably the first thing to try.

EDIT:
Just remembered the MSBT files reference specific audio files to play at what time, if the original ones are there, you can just change the MSBT file to play the right audio file.

Surprised they didn't give her a burqa too.

My concern about using the JPN version as the base game is the cutscenes. Wouldn't it kind of be difficult to change the subtitles on those?

(I know the OP is simply changing the models for the NA version, but some are saying to change the text in the JPN version)

For the time being it's something to put up with, later on however a patch can be made for the Japanese movie pack file to give subtitles to the video.
I can rip the video files using the Softdec2 player (I mentioned this earlier) and they can be subtitled with the lyrics from the english version and then those are burned in and then the final video file is converted pack and repacked then we make an xdelta of the files and upload that.

For now all you have to do is replace the follow files in the English version with the Japanese version:
pack_000_map.cpk
pack_010_character.cpk
pack_030_etc.cpk WARNING: I'm unsure about replace this, however, it does contain texture files and may contain uncensored content, however it may replace some English text with Japanese text, for now, don't replace this.

This should uncensor most things relating to graphics, a script patch will have to made also.

For now I'd just say to calm down because a full patch won't be here for a little while now.

I think using the US as base is WAY more work. Whole scenes have been changed and content completely removed. Just chhanging the models and updating character profiles is doing half-assed work, imo. It's not that much work to fix everything.

I'm currently working on the following:
- Change text scripts to point to the old voice lines.
- Swap fonts.
- Swap over translated UI stuff.

I currently have the game running with English text and JP font:

uifmem.png

EDIT: For the record, the US version has an extra folder for the movie subtitles.

You might just be right, but for people who are here for just a simple "for now" fix, what I suggested should work.

I believe the UI stuff is in the pack_030_etc.cpk actually.
