You don't need to buy it if you send it to someone for a hardmod and get them to downgrade it too (so you can use browserhax again). It is good to have a hardmod anyway so you can be free to try alpha stuff when it comes up.
Although it took him forever to do, hundshammer did a great job with my system and he has a quality record with his work. Just note it might take a while.
If all you want is homebrew sure but without a hardmod you can't run a cfw from theach latest firmware and getting a hardmod is basically the same price so I'd say it's a better deal.
You can't downgrade just with FreakyForms, you'd need a hardmod too. So you have to buy all the equipment for that. Would cost half as much to just send it to a professional and also have a beautiful looking permanent mod done instead of risking frying it yourself. But hey it's up to you. If you want to buy all the games you'll play that's your call

@hundshamer fixed a N3DS that I bricked trying to install a9lh. He installed a permanent hardmod, unbricked it and completed the a9lh setup for me. I mailed it to him from Japan and had it back in about two weeks (most of that was transit time).
Are you sure it doesn't work? Because it lists 11.0 as a firmware on smeas page. I haven't bothered testing it but it seems weird he would put that up if it doesn't work.
ASLR has caused much less stability for haxx on 11 firm OFW
Also it can't be initially installed from/on a 3DS on 11.0 due to lack of http permissions.
I'm fairly certain Smealum has not released the fix yet for cubic ninja. Unless he silently updated the ninjhax page and didn't post about it on twitter.
Actually it only affects Ninjhax and OoT3dhax. Every other entry point is still perfectly stable (except for the obvious ones that were fully patched)
