Reddit gave me some good information to go on, but I wanted to ask a few more questions.

So I have a New 3DS XL on the way to me, already modded and ready to go. But I wanted to make sure I have the right information before I go about messing with anything. According to the description, this is what I'm getting...

"10.7 Firmware ReiNand ARM9 OTP 32GB SD card. You can install every game from Sd with FBI"

First, most people suggested to move from ReiNand to Luma. I was wondering not only how to do this, but why?

I understand that ARM9 is arm9loaderhax, but what will this part let me do?

I've read a bit about OTP, but I'm curious as to what this means exactly.

FBI is a homebrew app to install CIA's from the SD card so the system can see them correct?

OK, so enough about what comes on the system, my next questions are what I can do from here.

I want to make sure to back up everything I can to prevent and recover from a brick. This would be VIA dumping the systems NAND correct? Is there a certain app I would use? Should I back up anything else?

I've seen a little about CIAngel, if I'm understanding it, would this make it so I wouldn't have to bother with CIAs and FBI? That I could just generate a ticket and go from there?

Last question I think. There's a few imports I'd like to play, where in the process of installing an imported game would I be able to change the region to my systems? It's a US model.

Thanks for all the help you can give me! Sorry for such a wall of text. If you have any other suggestions about what I should be using/installing/avoiding, I'd love to hear it!

Luma is more noob-firendly and is easier somwhat to set up, also its updated very often.

It allows to run custom firmware direct from boot, this means that you can make a NAND backup and if you brick your console restore it back to normal

One Time Programable. Its a file to basically gain deep access into the 3ds (to install arm9loaderhax)

In a nutshell, yes.

Decrypt9. Make backups of emunand, 9.2 sysnand and formatted emunand.

I've seen a little about CIAngel, if I'm understanding it, would this make it so I wouldn't have to bother with CIAs and FBI? That I could just generate a ticket and go from there?
If you type the tile id into ciaangel it will download the cia directly from Nintendo to your SD.

There's a few imports I'd like to play, where in the process of installing an imported game would I be able to change the region to my systems?
CFW (custom firmware) makes the console region-free.

Search in google "plailect guide" and follow ALL the instructions and i make the "ALL THE INSTRUCTION" very important because it reduces to almost 0% the chances of brick. PM me if you need more help

First, most people suggested to move from ReiNand to Luma. I was wondering not only how to do this, but why?

The how:

Download the latest release from here (take the normal one, not the one labeled 'dev'), then follow the installation instructions from here.

When you are finished copying the files to your SD card, put it back in and hold select while booting the console. You'll see a screen like this:

68747470733a2f2f7667792e6d652f62584a4275482e706e67

Follow this:
  1. Use the A button and the D-Pad to turn on the following:
    • "Autoboot SysNAND"
    • "SysNAND is updated"
    • "Force A9LH detection"
    • "Show current NAND in System Settings"
    • "Show GBA boot screen in patched AGB_FIRM"
  2. If you are using a New 3DS, you should also enable the following:
    • Toggle "New 3DS CPU" to "Clock+L2(x)" for improved game performance
  3. Press Start to save and reboot

The why:

Well, it's kinda some sort of general preference. Luma3DS has a few more features and is generally updated more often.
One feature that will be useful for you is the "New 3DS CPU Clock", which makes the CPU run at full speed and enhances the gaming experiences on some games.

I was typing the rest, but I see that @rikumax25! has already answered, so I'll leave this here. :)

P.S.: @rikumax25!: he/she does not need Plailect's guide since the console is already modded.

Thanks for all the help everyone! System came in today, seems to work well so far. I noticed that the firmware was updated to 11.0.0-33U according to the System Settings, but I don't have any issues.

I'll backup everything and put Luma on when I get in tonight.
