So yesterday I bought my second 3DS, nothing big, an old one. It got RxTools together with FBI pre-installed. It also got a few games (which were installed with FBI, I suppose?). However, whenever I try to install a .cia file (doesn't matter which), I always get this message:

Install failed!
Could not install app.
Raw Error: 0xc8e08001
Module: AM (0x20)
Level: Status (0x19)
Summary: Invalid argument (0x7)
Description: Unknown description (0x1)

Press Start to continue.

Please, if you know anything that might be helpful, I would greatly appreciate it. But try to keep it as simple as possible, since I just got this 3DS and don't really have a clue what to do.

For starters, use Luma3DS instead of RxFails.
Provide a link with the best tutorial, I might consider it if I won't have any choice left.
However, I kinda don't want to change my current setting, so if anybody knows a solution without deleting RxTools (I will delete it if necessary), it would be great help.

If you already have a CFW setup on any version between 9.0.0 and 9.2.0, change menuhax to type 1, set your menuhax trigger to D-Pad down, then start the guide at Part 4. Note that anywhere "RedNAND" is mentioned, you can pretend it says "EmuNAND" instead as they are very similar and the instructions will be the same other than that.

Great, thanks for the help. Is it possible to keep RxTools and Luma3DS side-by-side without having to delete RxTools?

Yeah, completely possible. You'll need to use a bootmanager, like CtrBootManager or BootCTR.

Edit: This is assuming you stay on a menuhax+emunand//sysnand setup. If you decide to move to a full A9LH setup, rxTools will not works, until rxTools implements A9LH support.

To add to this if you have any doubts theres really no difference in redNAND and emuNAND other then a smaller size on non samsung nand N3DS systems

If your on a N3DS system without samsung nand memory An emuNAND is 1888mb and a redNAND is 1240mb on those systems, everything as far as otphelper and the rest of the nand tools you use will recognize the small nand and correctly place it as needed

Everybody, thanks for all your help. Since I already have CFW 9.2 (hence the fact I got RxTools), I'll just skip to Part 4 after I'm done with work.

Start at step 3 part 15
OP would only need to do this if switching to Luma before starting the guide.
But its also possible (and probably preferred) to just stick with rxTools and start from part 4, as he already mentioned he was.

Which.. you have to switch to Luma in the end anyway. So really its preference whether you want to switch before or after (during rather) the process.

Now, sorry about all the noob questions, but as I said, this stuff is new to me.

What I'm interested in is how I check all the information about my CFW? Also, how do I use menuhax or even check if I have it? Thanks so far.

Edit: So nobody knows what's going on with FBI and RxTools? Is there a different cia installer that works with it? I don't want to tinker with my 3DS too much because I just bought it and getting a brick would be rather... well... devastating for me.

use dev menu or title manager

I'm on rxtools and with the latest update I can't use FBI anymore

Edit: if you don't want to you don't have to listen to all these little pricks telling you to stop using rxtools making go through a more complicated process just because they can't figure out a way to help you in your current situation

Thanks, man. I heard that those aren't too complicated to install, so I'm gonna try them today.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my FBI is 1.3.8 on H&S and 1.4.18 on FBI on the home menu. Just wanted to make that clear if an update is required, since those are old versions.

Your error is regarding invalid signatures.

Which can stem from:
1) Invalid or corrupt CIA
2) Trying to install from sysNAND (without using Pasta or RxMode)
3) Having NANDs still linked (at least I think this can cause this issue, maybe not)

Chances are updating FBI wont fix the issue. Honestly your best bet is to follow that guide you were referred to and switching from emuNAND setup to A9LH with updated sysNAND, which will allow you to use FBI without getting the signature error.

1) Well, I tested around 20 cia files, at least one was supposed to work.
2) No, I'm using emuNAND from RxTools. That's not the problem.
3) I'm not sure about the linked NANDs, how do I check that?

Guess my only option is to go with the A9LH tutorial. Hopefully nothing will go wrong...

You can check if your NANDs are linked by looking in "Nintendo 3DS" folder on SD. If you have 1 folder with a bunch of random chars.. theyre probably linked. If you see 2, theyre probably unlinked.

Now I remember, I have 2 folders with random chars. Guess the NANDs are unlinked.

Nothing will go wrong unless you literally ask for a brick even the programs take care of you

So, continuing from Part 4 is enough if I have emuNAND? Because if there's something else to do before, please tell me.
