Hi, I hope that I don't get in trouble for asking here. I bought a used 3ds, the old version, the firmware is version 10.5.0-30E. I did not update or anything, just booted it up and tried out a legit copy of pokemon pearl that I had. My question is what flashcard should I buy so I can play the pokemon games ( x,y,omega ruby, alpha saphire and maybe the mystery dungeon one) ? and which one is most likely to allow me to play the new games that will be out in november ( sun and moon ).

Where I live sky3ds+ seems to be the easiest to get, it could be here in a day. But everything I read on here is about gateway. Please help

Edit: you can talk to me like a complete noob since I have no clue what "cia" is or anything. I used a supercard ds one way back in 2008 and thats about it

If you really want to get a flashcart, then sky3ds+ will be good choice not requiring downgrading the firmware and can support the latest 3ds firmware for newer 3ds games. Gateway currently supports 3ds v4.1-9.2, and will probably support 10.3 soon.

Thank you for the quick replies, I'll read that guide and see how it goes, if the risks are too high then maybe i'll just get a sky3ds+ since from what I read its pretty easy to use the downside being that you cannot play edited roms ( so no neo pokemon x )

it's also hard to play online with flashcarts. if you don't use private headers you might get banned.

don't know what a private header is but i'll look into the A9LH thing as soon as i can
A header is essentially what identifies you when you play online. When you use a .3DS (Gateway or Sky3DS [red, blue, +]) you use a public header, because it's a shared ROM. With CIA, (CFW, like a downloaded eshop game) you are using a private header. You can, however, inject a private header into a .3DS rom but that's complicated.

Not quite - for .3ds files you need to inject a private header if you don't wish to be banned. CIA files do not use a header at all (they use your console's info as a header instead).

Just to update you all, I think I will either burn my house down or break something. This is frustrating as hell. That guide needs to be more specific. I got to part 2 at point 18. "
  1. Reinstall menuhax using browserhax and the HomeBrew Launcher (you do not need to reconfigure, just press install in menuhax_manager) "
No clue how to do that. now my system shows up as a 9.2.0-20E but pressing the down d-pad does nothing. I have no clue what to do

reinstalling through browserhax means to go to that address right ? ( yls8.mtheall.com/etc etc ) that doesn't load now

Browserhax works on 9.2 to access HBL.
Just keep trying. Make sure you have the browserhax kit on your SD (yls site should mention this I think)

Once youre in the HBL, open the menuhax manager and proceed following guide.

Did you read the guide? Here is part 1:
8. Navigate to http://yls8.mtheall.com/3dsbrowserhax_auto.php or scan the QR code on your 3DS (if you get a slider, zoom all the way in on it, then tap the very right edge of it; this can take quite a few tries)

Yes of course i did, first time i loaded the website i got a " terminated something something " message but every other time i get a white page with a very tiny bar as seen in this video

Now I am on part 3 of the guide at point 24 "
  1. Reinstall menuhax on SysNAND as the format will have removed it "
trying to figure out how to do that.

You said nowhere in the guide mentioned the bar, yet the part I quoted did - this would suggest you did not actually read it.

If you actually read the guide, you'll notice the next part after the part I quoted tells you how to install menuhax. Since you're having trouble with the whole reading thing, I'll copy it here for you.

  1. Your console should load the homebrew menu
  2. Open the menuhax_manager application
  3. Press A to install, it may show some errors but that's fine as long as it shows "Success" towards the end
  4. Go back to the main menuhax_manager menu, then select "Configure/check haxx trigger..."
  5. Press A to continue, then select "Type1"
  6. Hold down on the D-Pad, then tap the touch screen; this is the recommended button to use for launching menuhax in this guide because it does not interfere with any other functions of tools we will be using
  7. Go back to the main menuhax_manager menu, then press B, followed by Start to exit back into the Homebrew Launcher
  8. Use the Start button to reboot
  9. You can now hold D-Pad down while the system is booting to launch the Homebrew Launcher

Finally done, everything went great. I followed this guide https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/4hwuhf/ to make my game into a cia file, now the problem is that I only have a 4GB card so I have no room to install the game with FBI from the cia file. Are there other ways I could add games ? I have the .3ds file, is there something I can use to play off of that ?

Check the titlekey database site. If the game you want exists there, use CIAngel (you can download and install it in one go, no need for double space). You don't need the .cia file.

You'll have a lot of trouble in future having such a small card - try and find a bigger one if you can.
