Hello GBATempers,
I need some advice/help with my laptop. I've had this laptop for about a year now and it has worked perfectly for me. Now into the back story..... Unfortunately, after I had it for about 3 months, and then I spilled apple juice on it. I panicked when this happened and unplugged the laptop from its charger. I didn't even think to remove the battery as apple juice spewed out of my laptop fan. The laptop display turned black, I think it shorted out. I thought my laptop was dead. The entire night I tried to take my laptop apart and did my best to use a towel to absorb any seeping apple juice present. I let it air dry for a day and knock on wood, it has been good since (aside for the sticky keys on the keyboard which is fine.) Now, 9 months later, my question is, is there anything else that I should do now that would increase the lifetime of my laptop. My concern is the sugary residue left behind my the apple juice might cause some electrical problems (even corrosion.) Should I concentrate on specific areas like the hard drive/motherboard or the fan? What should I use to help clean the laptop?
Thanks for reading and hopefully you can provide some help!
:)

Well since it has been 9 months the apple juice has already dried. If you are really worried about it you can take it apart again and clean it with Isopropyl alcohol but other than that I would not be to worried since if there was damage to-do it would of already happened.

Alright, that's what I was thinking of doing, cleaning with the isopropyl alcohol. I should get the most concentrated version that I can find right (like 99.99%) right?

A good life hack would be to disassemble your laptop, and put it in uncooked rice. Or put some uncooked rice on it. It absorbs moistur, if any left. But I doubt it'll do anything about the sugar.

The idea with solvents in this case is to get rid rid of things. You will be told high conc/purity for such things mainly as it is easier than telling you to figure out what else might be in it -- I could say use nail polish remover for something but a lot of them have moisturiser, scents and such in which would then get left behind on your electronics. Electrical contact cleaner or PCB cleaner or stuff like from electronics shops (don't get automotive contact cleaner as it is nasty stuff).

Sugar is not a particularly corrosive or conductive agent (it is not like salt water or something), especially not when it has dried.
On areas to concentrate on then avoid spraying the hard drive with stuff -- if if seeps in and gets into the platters (I assume it is spinning rust and not a SDD) then that will mess things up. Not to mention if it was coming out the fan port then most laptops, aside from netbooks, I have ever pulled apart usually have the hard drive somewhat away from it -- assuming you only spilled a little bit it does not magically cover the entire board instantly. If you can visibly see things on the hard drive then we can reconsider.

The worst that I imagine will happen from what you describe is if some gunk dried in the bearings of the fan. You would probably have heard that by now though and if it was spinning at the time then it probably did not wick any into them.
