Hey guys, I'm a complete novice who threw himself into this and i'm just trying to learn things on the way. I could use some help in the specifics because i'm not really educated in this stuff.
First off Is there a way I can use songs not from the customsmashmusic site on my game? I'm using the guide from up there for all my mods and stuff. It doesn't seem like just changing a song file from .mp3 to .nu3bank will work.
Second, I have some questions on alt skins and model swapping. How do I do the thing from TS4M's modpack where Falcon can model swap with anybody, but without the rest of the packs gameplay changing elements? I wanna be able to do it online, and i've seen videos of it done online before. In that same sense, how do I apply any custom skin i download from this threads archive without adding it in the the modpack with the edited gameplay. I main Falcon and just being able to practice online all day with a Captain America skin would be dope. If anybody can walk me through these novice problems i'd be very thankful.

Dude no need for pushing. Someone will likely have an answer. I'm trying to figure how to add additional music tracks to the game without replacing tracks and I figured how where you do it, but can't figure out what else I need to do in the edits because the game crashes on the splash screen before boot.

So just wait patiently.

Hi everyone, I've been trying to extract my PAL Sm4sh (Like everyone else). I've used ddd for it's extraction, but it kept freezing while trying to extract dt00 in /content. All other folders do work with ddd. It's not the whole /content folder that refuses to extract though, because /content/patch works like a charm. So it's just dt00, and perhaps dt01 and ls. I'm also assuming that ddd doesn't extract individual files, only folders, as I've tried those options already.

This kind of puts me in a bad situation, as those three files are the most crucial files when it comes to editing. And I've also picked up on the fact that other region files (the dt and ls ones) won't work. UWizard won't help either, as I'm still searching on how to obtain my PAL Smash for Wii U title key (.tik).

My ddd freezes at extracting dt00, because my CD apparently stops running (at around 4-50000 kb's in). Anyone have a clue why my CD gives up?

Custom musics don't matter, if a music isnt found, it wont play, but it wont crash.

For custom voices, you have to actually edit the resource file.

Apologies if this has been answered, but how do you go about editing the resource file?

I thought a custom voice hack would be a quick and easy test mod, but I replaced one idsp in one voice bank and it freezes at the boot screen.

Hey guys, I've spent all day trying to figure out how to just be able to use the custom skins I downloaded, without editing any gameplay (so i can use them online). I feel like I'm close but I keep finding new details and obstacles. I have sm4sh modded to the point to where i can replace music and stuff, if that's any indication on how much I know what i am doing. Please send help
So i want to use smash 4 injector but the video tutorial is super confusing. I don't have any clue how i can extract my game onto my cpu, nor how to get those dt00, dt01, and ls files, nor do I understand what they are. I don't understand how or why I am supposed to find a Wii U decryption key or how I would use it when i got it. I think if i could just get to the point where i can use the sm4sh injector I would be good, bu it's been over 5 hours of me starting this from scratch and i'm ready to be done.

Custom textures work differently now than they did in Brawl. In Brawl you could just plop a couple files on your sdcard and they'd load, but now you have to compile every mod you want to use together into a new patchfile for the game to load. In order to properly create this file, you need a copy of Smash Bros decrypted on your PC.

The dt00, dt01 and ls files are the decrypted game. You need them to get sm4shexplorer to work, because they contain all the files you'll be replacing and compiling. In order to get these files, you need to dump the game from your WiiU on to your computer, and in order to do that you'll need to set up a local connection between the two, so they can talk to each other. If you've already loaded the kernel, then you probably know how to do that part, at least.

Once you've loaded the kernel and get homebrew working, you'll want to run ddd Wii U title dumper. This will copy the dt00, dt01 and ls files to your pc. It will take a while to dump, though, especially if your connection is slow. Best to let it run overnight.

After you have those files, you need to get the patch files, as they're also needed to get sm4shexplorer to work. That's what you'll use the Wii U common key for (I'm sorry I can't make it easy on you and just give it to you, but it's easy to find). The video tutorial walks you through this step, except it's a bit outdated. Where it says to download patch v208, you'll want to download patch v224 instead.

I know, it's all pretty convoluted, and it took me quite a bit to get everything figured out, too. But hopefully this gets you on the right track, at least.

Jeez lots of questions. But anyone know how to mod csps? Everytime I use photoshop to save them as a .dds (with dtx1, 3, or 5) and inject it it doesn't work. Anyone know the proper format?

I ran into the same problem because I put the mods directly to my sd card without using smash 4 explorer. The dt, ls files you can extract from your retail game via caffeine (that's how I did it). Look up the caffeine tutorial in the definitive guide to wiiu hacking. Also follow the smash 4 explorer tutorial because you need that to pack your replaced files. You place the files in smash 4 explorer and then build to mods which you then transfer to your sd card. Hope that helps.

first off thank you so much, this is my first bit of progress in hours.

I have the kernel working and stuff but I stopped homebrew, and core wii u hacking stuff as soon as i could replace music in smash. How do i get to where I can run this ddd thing? The farthest i've gotten in this area was getting to what i think is the loadiine menu (?) it was like a black wii u home menu screen with nothing on it except personalized settings options and stuff.

No Problem!

Video is here:

I apologise if this has been asked before (or mentioned in the video, I didn't watch it because I just downloaded the file and tested it myself :p), but how would one go about doing this sort of thing for stages already enabled in 8 player Smash? For instance, Midgar has no hazards in 8 player Smash because it's been enabled already, but stages like Orbital Gate Assault and Kalos Pokemon League have their hazards function perfectly fine with this hack. Which makes me think that maybe we can bring back its and maybe those of other stages. but IDK how to do that, and I guess a simple UI hack (what this seems to be) would not suffice.

The ddd thread should help you get started in figuring it out. It boots from the homebrew launcher, like loadiine does (or I believe like loadiine does, I haven't used it, myself), you just need to have the right files downloaded.

Alright, guys, so I'm very shortsighted and forgot to turn auto-shutdown off before I started dumping.

I also have to go to bed in an hour.

Will anything catastrophic happen if the dump is cut off before it's finished?

The copied files will be unusable and you'll have to start over, but the system should be fine.

I was expecting the former, glad to know the system will be fine though. That was my main concern.

Will I have to dump EVERY TIME I want to add skins?

No. That would be awful. Once you've got the decrypted files, just make sure you don't delete them. Sm4shexplorer doesn't overwrite them, it just uses them to write new files that will be placed on the sd card. As long as you keep a copy of the original files, you can keep adding new mods whenever you like.

can you post what you found?

As you can see from this screencap of the Param Editor which has the ui_sound_db.bin opened, you can see three Groups and the first Group holds the database for the My Music section for every stage.

Entry[54] is for Midgar, Name 2 represents the tracks that are available for the stage, this case 2 tracks, and Names 3 to 41 all represent which music track is used for that stage. Only Name 3 and 4 are filled with the number that represents the Music file that you can see in the sounds.msbt if you use the MSBT Editor, while everything below that is using these filler numbers.

I know that by changing Name 2 to any number to 40 would likely let you add additional tracks after the first two. Problem is, changing the number and adding lets say the same two track numbers that are in Names 3 and 4 in 5 and 6 if you wanted to have 4 tracks for the stage and saving the file afterwords seems to go okay.

But after you place it back in data(us-en)\param\ui and rebuild the mod and insert it into your SD Card and running SDCafiine and beginning Smash Bros like normal, you will end up stuck on the splash screen before the game even boots.

And I know this is where you edit My Music because Entry[52] has 27 Tracks in it and that is the Mario Maker stage, which has 27 tracks in game.

Why the Wii U softlocks on the splash screen after editing this param file I have no idea, since editing the on in the regular data folder, the game boots but there is no changes seen. So if you have a better idea on why this is the case, please feel free to share.

Ok, so I shut it off and then turned off auto-shutdown, and started dumping again.

It picked up where I left off, oddly enough

God dang it I'm so close
I don't know how to get the homebrew launcher to launch now. I could do it before i set up cafiine, but i'm running cafiine off xamp from this tutorial now and I can't figure out how to get back to the homebrew launcher because the old way where i typed in my ip/hax?launcher doesn't work.

Use the method in this thread. That's how I set up the homebrew launcher originally. Though I do prefer thatsmash4modder's method for getting directly into hacked Smash.
